Well, that blade issue certainly is something to be aware of when using it.

My Rebar does the same unfortunately, but that could very well be because it’s been taken apart and modded a bunch of times. It has put me in the habit of covering the blade a bit with a finger to prevent it popping out.
It’s not ideal but I can live with it. Maybe I’ll replace it with a sheepsfoot type from a Rebar for safety later on.

After some days of carrying and using the Bond I must say it really is a great tool, I love it. No frills, just pure function and quality.  :tu:

We have a three day weekend coming up, I look forward to doing some work around the house with Mister Bond  :multi:

One cup of coffee and a dive into the parts drawer later and here we are:

For the record, the Rebar doesn’t open as far as the Bond does.

I :like: that serrated blade in there, nitram :tu: It would also solve the blade coming out and poking you :o

I haven't checked any other tools but seems like I have had a Rebar or 2 come out a bit like this as well over the years

Hopefully they fix the issue in later runs :ahhh

Thank you! The blade does come out a bit but it’s safe this way. Since I always have a SAK of some sort in my pocket this actually makes my carry more versatile.

The plan is to mod in a PST II file this weekend and maybe a plier head from an older second gen Wave or Fuse for the smaller teeth.  :)

Nice picture!  :hatsoff:

I wonder how returning a Bond to Leatherman citing a safety issue would work out...?

Likely they would either just tighten it or just send a new one without any change (at least for now  )

I just checked my black oxide rebar and it does the same thing, blade comes out a bit,and interestingly enough so does a fuse as well. Doubt I will ever skewer myself as sliding the hand down is backwards as I would slide hand up the handle but if it can happen it will. Probably a simple fix but by now they have probably made several thousands and no serial numbers to track them. No way the engineers or even the assembly crew didn't report this.

Both of my Rebars snap closed. As for the Blast, Fuse, Kick, there is no way those blade are going to get pushed open by accident like the Bond. There is no cut out and there is sufficient friction against the handle liner.

Hmmm... my Bond's tools snap shut with a vengeance and stay shut... maybe an improved batch already?

0221 on both handles...
Maybe I need to use it more to make this problem appear though, I've only just got it. The tools feel a bit too stiff and may loosen up. I'll report if / when that happens.
Cheers!

Here’s my Rebar. It doesn’t open as far as the Bond, but still. It could be because it’s been apart a few times, so I experimented with tightness on the pivot and that doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I would think it would be fairly easy if you had the right size drill and tap. Leatherman should start doing this for us on the Rebar. It would boost their sales of after market clips  :tu:

I believe I have seen somewhere around here that the thread should be something like M2.5 or a close imperial equivalent...

I need to check all my Rebars and see what they are like  well the ones that haven't been modded anyways  :D

This company also sells the free pocket clips in black, which is heaven as I want to put them on a BO Kick

I have to admit that I've never really been a fan of a pocket clip on anything. :D  Each to their own of course, they're just not my taste.  In fact I much prefer to drop a PST, Pulse or Bond straight in my front pocket.  That said we've not really talked about the Nylon sheath we get with the Bond.  The Bond is the first new LM I've bought with this type of sheath and my first impressions are mostly positive.  Seems to be made out of a good thick Nylon webbing and well stitched together.  I'm liking the stud fastener a lot.  Big, easy to close and easy to locate without looking.  On the downside I don't know why there's such an excess of space when it's closed.
