SAK carry.
on: May 22, 2021, 10:32:26 AM
I’m looking for some innovative ways of carrying  my champ. I do have pouches which are useful when I’m at work but for my off duty carry I do struggle for the following reasons.
Firstly I rarely wear a belt.
Secondly, being a gentleman and maintaining a gentleman’s standards one should never fill one’s pockets as it makes for unsightly bulges. Front pockets are only for show and rear pockets are for a folded handkerchief (not for snot but for emergency spillages of ones cocktail or the wiping of a lady or child’s tear)
So this leaves me with something of a conundrum. Do I sacrifice my dress sense :o or find a more discrete method of conveying my beloved SAK?  :tu:
I would be remiss if I didn’t explore all possibilities which of course means reaching out to our knowledgeable community.

Apart from carrying your Swisschamp 'Prison Style' I have no other suggestions.

A gentleman prefers Alox :pok:  ;)

Seriously though I’m not sure a champ is ever going to be easy pocket carry, so short of wearing it around your neck (70’s porn star pendant style  ) if you don’t want it in your pockets, I’m thinking you need a bag of some sort.

As you often don’t wear a belt, a pouch is out, unsightly bulges are out so maybe time for something a bit smaller, compact perhaps.

A cadet or pioneer/px on a p7 clip feel more gentlemanly to me but appreciate that’s not the question… hmmm :dunno:

Dare I ask what prison style is. Is it likely to make me walk in a peculiar manner? :o

Depends on distance of insertion. Main thing to remember is, fit a lanyard of appropriate length to aid retrieval

Hmm. I like the idea of an Alox, not got one of those. What’s this p7 clip that you suggested. Not familiar with it.

Add a python clip and you can easily unclip it so nothing gets in the way of the tools in use

Cheaper copies on eBay but these are way better

The P7 clip would work for your Swisschamp  as a pocket dangler - attach the clip to your belt with enough free cord to suspend the Champ safely in your pocket. It's a great solution

Thanks guys, this sounds like the solution I've been after. I can think of a multitude of places to hook it. Down side is now I'm convinced that you're right,  Alox screams gentleman's must have.
So I've just sourced and ordered two clips and I'm now whittling down (couldn't resist it) which Alox would best suit my habiliments.
I may have to make the first non traditional colour purchase for my collection. These are indeed crazy times we're living in.  :D

Going for a colour is a great idea, I’m particularly partial to green myself, once the alox bug bites there’s no turning back, in true MTo fashion, get them all

Carried an FX today my overall favourite model but for discrete carry, the cadet takes some beating

This year’s limited edition orange PX is very nice

  ET

A little inspiration :)

I would think your tailor could fashion a perfect vest pocket for your SAK.  ;)

A sartorially superlative solution. The intervention of a creative tailor and something bespoke maybe a good alternative at some point in the future.

To be fair I do currently have a 10% discount burning a hole in my emails at the moment. Maybe 2021 PX and a 2020 cadet.  :D

Any jacket will have inside pockets that should meet your needs - probably will varying levels of discretion.

Failing that, a sporran is both a handy carryall, and a fine piece of men's attire...

and you gave him one  :D

The P7 clips are really great for carrying larger SAKs in your pocket :salute: and Alox is also a great option  but it can get a bit addictive and that's why I don't stray in here as much as I use to :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :D

I'd recommend this

- The waist/belt clip doesn't require a belt, it will fit on any waistband.

- there are two chains, depending on your style preference
          - It can be used as a dangler without any chain, if you're so inclined,
          - or the small chain can be used and the clip can be attached near your pocket so that the SAK is near the top of it, and not creating an unsightly bulge down below
          - or you can use the longer chain and let it hang out like a pocket-watch.

Either way, a touch of silvery shine can make you look like a gent.

Sir OP,

On top of already spiffing advice given  may I offer the obvious?
Problem you are describing is one of the main reasons you should have a tailor you trust ;)
Have a word with your man and if he is worth his salt a conceled front carry will be as easy as Sunday morning :)

Gentlemen, such as the members of this forum, are, among other things, proud servants of tradition. Thus, if a Champ is your personal edc tradition, then why not pay homage to it and give your pocket a break by going mini. The mini champ works beautifully on a  P7 clip and is available in alox.
(Magentus might also agree that it’s a little more amenable to alternative concealed carry options )

I just wanted to to say thank you to all the contributors to this thread. Entertainment and jocularity aside I’ve taken away some sterling ideas, some of which I have already actioned.
I’m still relatively new to the collectors scene but this forum has blown me away. I’ve seen no sniping, trolling or general unpleasantness. I’ve learnt from the replies and laughed at the humorous comments, what more could you ask for.
I read the threads every evening before retiring (after dismissing my butler, bat man and general factotum of course ;)) a relaxing way to end the day.
Thanks once again guys and I look forward to more of the same.
