Euro 2020/21 Banter
on: June 11, 2021, 10:51:20 PM
So, as Mrs Surge has declared that Italy shall be triumphant at Euro 2020 2021 I thought I'd post something in support of her (until England play, obviously :pok:

I should state here that I'm not a fan of football because, as we all know, rugby is the game of choice for gentlemen/ruffians  :duel:

Still, the final result was; Italy 3 - Turkey 0  :dunno:
Come on England  :viking:

My money would be on France....if I hadn't spent it awl on SAKs....but isn't it being played in England?  That would seem to give the English side a bit of an edge.

Go Wales!

As it's the 60th anniversary of the Euro championship, UEFA decided to have it played in 12 European cities, London, München, Rom, Baku, St Peterburg, Kopenhagen, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Glasgow, Dublin, Bilbao and Budapest.

Yes, France, Belgium, Italy all have strog teams, but we've seen how the biggest favorites go out early in the last few world and Euro tournaments. I'd be glad if Belgium won though.

Even though we/Croatia are the runners up of the last big tournament, the World Championship, I don't think we can do much here, a lot of new, young players now in the team, but I'll be happy if proven wrong

That sounds like more fun. Thanks for clarifying that.

Wales deadlocked with those SAK makers at 0-0 at the moment.

Italy are in impressive form, 28 games unbeaten, 53 goals in the last 17 games only conceding 3.

I thought England had learned the lesson about selecting unfit players who haven’t played for weeks. God help us if Henderson and Maguire actually turn out on match day. Even if fit, Maguire is bit of a liability, though I’m a United fan Maguire and Lindelof have to be replaced to make progress.

How many right-backs are in the squad? Should do well against teams playing four left wingers.

Anyway, the beer’s in the fridge and I’m raring to go, watching the biennial trauma of England. Otherwise it’s Forza Azzuri.

I just read about the Denmark-Finland game.
Is there a good place for (free) highlights?
I played my first game in many years yesterday and need some inspiration.  ;)

Go Wales!

I find this support of our football team surprising, heart warming and likely misplaced. We're naff at football, cracking at rugby.

TBH though I just get happy inside when people not from the UK know that Wales exists and not in the context of "isn't that in England?"

I may be American, but I'm not ignorant. Actually, many people here know Wales, despite its arid climate, as being one of France's finest provinces.

( And I was was pulling for Wales in the last Six Nations, too. They did rather well*. I was able to watch them give England a good drubbing. )

* At least they did better than the feeble side from Italy. Which was nice.

I won't rise to that francocentric bait  ::)

It's nice when Americans know enough about my country to tease me about it at least

I'm not sure why Italy bother playing rugby to be honest, but you have to admire the sheer tenacity to keep at it year after year. I imagine in the Surge household he has to cook all the omlettes, for fear his missus couldn't keep hold of the egg  :pok:

Sad to say, I've never been to Wales.

However, both Mrs Nix and I are eager to go. Mrs Nix enjoys singing and I want to see Hamlet's castle.

Joe Root’s post defeat interview, I have never heard such a feeble, supine, abject example of sports leadership. In to stark comparison to, say Roy Keane.

I have been fortunate enough to have been to Wales often (my late father lived in Port Talbot)

My last time was for his funeral and the next one (next week) is to scatter his ashes at Three Cliffs Bay (you should must visit this place)

https://www.visitwales.com/attraction/beach/three-cliffs-bay-beach-1936407

Whilst there I shall smuggle out a bottle or two of Welsh Gold (don't tell GF  :pok: )

Really. Cricket  ::) :rofl:

I thought this was going to be about https://eurovision.tv/ but apparently it's just about some backyard kickball silliness.

I'll come back when you're ready to talk about something serious.
