Day 25 of 30 (Stack Challenge)

Maybe I should read the manual so I know how all these doodads and doohickeys work?   :dunno:

Actually, I got all of my Champs used from eBay, without boxes or paperwork. I ran across this Swiss Champ manual (shows original mag glass and crimperless pliers) on eBay a few weeks ago and thought it'd be fun to have.
SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive (2)
85mm: Traveler, Delemont S10, Bass
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox

:iagree:  If I could rewind the clock, I'd have picked up a Swiss Champ and stopped there. Years ago, I thought them to be ridiculously big, but they're really not that large given the number of tools you get compared to other m/t's. I think I've done all those challenges with you buddy, and I always come away with the same conclusion.
:iagree:

I used to think the Swiss Champ was a bit of a novelty. Now it has become a valued companion knife. My previous Swiss Champ challenges, and now this one, have really changed my perspective on the old Swiss Champ. I think this 60-day challenge has been more valuable for me than I thought it would be, in that respect. The Swiss Champ is starting to feel like "the one".

Maybe it's just.....  :dunno:

Great day!  I use a plastic bag on mine with either the scaler or the main blade protruding through.  It can get a little slippery but cuts clean up in half.  I used my Huntsman as a hunting knife for 20 years until I found the Forum, and the slide down the SAK rabbit hole began
Day 56

This morning my buddies and I found a 6 man limit of honkers. They're all totally used to me cleaning geese with the champ now, and I am getting faster at cleaning the champ. Once I got home I opened a healthy snack with the scissors.

Scissors and small flat screw driver were used today. I found the screw driver slippery and a bit tricky to use here, but it worked  :tu:

Interesting posts Nix and Barry.

I've not done a SwissChamp challenge before (Edit looking at my Awards I think I have but I have forgotten it!) and I reckoned 60 days would answer the question decisively for me. It has. But not as I expected. I expected the SwissClump to be a bit of a nuisance at times and handy at others but in the end the size would be the big downside. It wasn't. I like a pouch and I figured I'd get belt/trouser sag. I didn't. It isn't the brick you might otherwise expect.

A few thoughts from me. Compared to my Wenger EvoGrip 54 it is a well laid out tool for access to layers, the tools are all quite useable and the round scales make the bulk disappear in your pocket/hand/ pouch. The EvoGrip 54 is not as effective and it's contoured scales are a bit of a nuisance if I'm honest. I would not wish to carry that every day and it is a shelf queen which I'm ok with.

For me I think the rounding of the scales makes the SwissChamp toolset quite easy to carry. It's not small but carrying one for a day you start to forget it's a brick (it isn't) and get over your preconceptions.

Don't get me wrong I like my other SAKs and a Huntsman is a pretty fine tool for it's size but I have learnt that the SwissChamp is a much more mild manner beast than you might think. If you can afford only one SAK it should be this. Maybe it's too much for a day at the office or around town (where you probably won't need a saw or metal file) but it is a serious contender. Paired with a Classic you have pretty much most bases covered.

My father in law used to say "A poor workman can only afford the best tools". That's what it is.

Day 57/60 Universal scaler not strictly suitable to measure the long bike ride I did today ...

:iagree: completely.   As far as the Evo scales go, I love the look but prefer the old scales on my Wengers too Phil.  As far as tools go, every mechanic, carpenter, tech I've ever met has said the same thing.

Day 57: Some work outside securing and trimming zip straps.

After the challenge is over, I might try what Vicman does and truly EDC this knife.  I'm thinking a long term, i.e. 6 months carry?  I know the pouch works better for me in jeans than shorts.  We'll see...

Well said Barry, Jack and Bill  :tu:

I did the 30 day SAK Stack challenge as well before. But for some reason the Swiss Cbamp and CT41 went back into the drawer. Only the CT41 gets used occasionally.
That's why I'm here again! To find out why that is.
But this time with the Swiss Champ only.

From '89 to '95 this Swiss Champ was my only pocket tool. I know its abilities and limits well and love it for what it is.

Pocket caddies or suspension clips were not a thing back then so it was limited to sheath carry for me. Or just dropping in into the pocket.
These days I prefer a pocket caddy for the back pocket or a sheath. Funny that these days I find its format a bit inconvenient though.

But is that it? The brick like format or somewhat soft/slippery screw drivers?

No, it's not! I figured out it's much simpler than that.

I like pocket and multi tools. I like to switch it up some times. Trying out different/new stuff or combinations.
Haven't I found it yet still? Sure I have... a dozent times already  :D

No seriously though, the SwissCard Lite in my wallet is always with me and provides the SAK alike basics (even a magnifier), which gives me some freedom for what to combine it with.
A Swiss Champ seems not very exiting then.

Soooo... that's all I can come up with. I love the Swiss Champ. And it was fun to find new uses for the Fish Scaler, after all those years I have it  :like:

A good point there McStitchy. The Scaler has proved to be quite versatile in this Challenge. I’ve been amazed by the variety of things people have done with it. Most SAK people shrug their shoulders at it. I have always liked the Scaler for non-practical reasons but this Challenge reinforces it’s worth in the suite of tools on a SwissChamp.

Hurrah for the Universal Scaler  :2tu:

The scaler is an integral part of the XLT. Use it sometimes even for fishing... Of tea bags.

The Champ (even non-XLT) brings a lot of tools in a relatively small package. It is perfect for EDC!

Day 57

I'll see your carrots and raise you 16 geese

So you already know what the large blade was used for today. Used the scissors to open a bag of sugar for the wife. I tried out the universal scaler to flip venison steaks. It works better with 2, but one would definitely get the job done. No pictures of the cooking, hot lard, open flame, only 2 hands and large potentially flammable beard!
