Day 20
I used the main blade to open a bag of potting soil yesterday, but I couldn’t take a photo at the time (I was wearing dirty gardening gloves). So here’s a glamor shot of most of the tools I’ve used so far during the Challenge.
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

kamakiri - Day 21

Changed to a 1973 Champion A 246fmaU for Day 21. No uses so far today…but missing some of my other EDC cohorts lately…mostly the SBX and the Troubleshooters.

This one is a pretty rare Champion A, and perhaps one of the last batch. It sports the more common 2nd font of ruler and was produced earlier in the year from the first Champion Cs which got the new magnifier and Phillips layer, as well as the first nail cleaner tipped metal saw. So there may be another, perhaps even more variants out there for some of us crazies to find…if putting forth the effort to search for such rare oddities.

Day of Challenge / Knife used:
1. Original Black 1984
2. Champion Plus c. ‘09
3. 1974 Red w/o Nickel Silver Shield
4. 1967 Hoffritz Champion B
5. 1983 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife
6. 1965 Hoffritz Champion B
7. 1986 Champion C
8. 1978 Champion C
9. 1989 Champion C
10. 1978 Hoffritz - Stainless inlay
11. 1980 A&F black Champion 1 of 3
12. 1969 146fmaU Champion B
13. 146fmaU Champion B - TGS inlay
14. 1989 Champion C - Credit Suisse inlay
15. mid-‘50s 146fmaU Champion B
16. 1963 146fmaU Champion B
17. 1973 Hoffritz 146fmaU Champion B w/ 1st Ruler
18. 1966 Champion B 146fmaU H
19. 1975 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife with clip point
20. 1958 Champion B 146fmaU & 1960 Champion A  246fmaU
21. 1973 Champion A 246fmaU w/ 2nd ruler

Good use! I've never used the fine screwdriver on the back of my SwissChamp. I'll have to remember that next time I install a circuit breaker.

kamakiri - Day 20

Changed to a 1958 Champion B 146fmaU for Day 20. Picking a co-Champion for the day, because I thought that this duo was worth featuring together instead of on consecutive days. The second knife is a 1960 Champion A 246fmaU sporting the rarer Corkscrew (at least in the States).
By "rarer" corkscrew, do you mean the grooved, 5-turn design? I have that on my '63 Champion A as well.

I wonder why Victorinox redesigned it?

Day 21

I never think about the 90 degree stop on the bottle opener until I use my '83 that doesn't have it. Then I find myself trying to "balance" it at 90, usually with not a lot of success.

My '63 doesn't have the stop either, but I rarely use that SAK. It's earned a good retirement from active use.

No.  You can't tell from the pic, but the water there isn't knee deep (no fear if your SAK gets dropped  :)).  At high tide you have to wade out onto the dock.  The main channel is out near the tall tree that is almost centered in the pic.  The water is brackish, so you can catch salt water fish even though it's miles to the inlet.

PS-the weird software of this forum changes salt water as one word to salsmurfer.

In this context, I meant the corkscrew vs Phillips only. Empirically, here in the states we seemed to have the preference for Phillips and with the Champions by more than 5:1. From what I heard from member Elsinox, it’s almost the opposite in Europe or elsewhere.

AFAIK, they were both produced in parallel for the whole time from ~‘52 to ‘73.

I hope I’m making sense…not fully caffeinated yet!

I have but one SAK that lacks the half-stop: a Small Tinker, likely 1976-1984. Since it's not a user, I barely notice it.

The water is brackish, so you can catch salt water fish even though it's miles to the inlet.
I've never done salt water fishing. No opportunities for that in my neck of the woods...but abundant fresh water!

kamakiri - Day 22

Changed to a c. 1960 Champion B 146fmaU for Day 22. Just opened the mail and trimmed some threads. Otherwise just getting some needed light cleaning.

This one features one rare part for 91mm knives. Not just that it has a metal saw. This metal saw doesn’t have a nail nick and sticks out a bit over the backspring for access. One interesting thing about the absent nail nick is that it allowed yet another permutation of tool order in the Champion line. Since ‘52, several arrangements were used between the two saws and scaler. I’m not even sure all the ones I have are all that exist.

Day of Challenge / Knife used:
1. Original Black 1984
2. Champion Plus c. ‘09
3. 1974 Red w/o Nickel Silver Shield
4. 1967 Hoffritz Champion B
5. 1983 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife
6. 1965 Hoffritz Champion B
7. 1986 Champion C
8. 1978 Champion C
9. 1989 Champion C
10. 1978 Hoffritz - Stainless inlay
11. 1980 A&F black Champion 1 of 3
12. 1969 146fmaU Champion B
13. 146fmaU Champion B - TGS inlay
14. 1989 Champion C - Credit Suisse inlay
15. mid-‘50s 146fmaU Champion B
16. 1963 146fmaU Champion B
17. 1973 Hoffritz 146fmaU Champion B w/ 1st Ruler
18. 1966 Champion B 146fmaU H
19. 1975 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife with clip point
20. 1958 Champion B 146fmaU & 1960 Champion A  246fmaU
21. 1973 Champion A 246fmaU w/ 2nd ruler
22. c. 1960 Champion B 146fmaU w no nick metal saw

I’d say you’re right and that’s certainly true today looking across all models. My guess is that’s likely for any country after say the mid ‘70s. However, during the time of production for Champion A and B between ‘52 and ‘73, there are far more B/Phillips versions here in the States. Enough so, that I believe they command a bit of a price premium here. From my perspective I rarely see the Champion A unless it’s from overseas.
