When it comes to manufacturing multitools Buck may not be as prolific as some companies, but they really shouldn't be discounted either.

Blurring the lines between multi- bladed pocket knives and multitools (before it was cool!) This Twin Peaks model features two blades, a corkscrew and a combination bottle opener and screwdriver.

Time to take a closer look at one of my favorite EDC items- the MTO Million Post Second Generation Leatherman Surge in black Oxide!

When it comes to quirky tools no list is complete without this one- the Gerber Steady.

Part standard multitool and part camera tripod, the Steady was the best answer you could come up with for a problem very few people were having- and was such a good answer that it also included a suction cup for the standard camera mount so the Steady could hold your camera phone in case your DSLR wasn't along for the ride!

It always gets to me that everyone picks on my autocorrects and spelling booboos but no one else seems to pick on the jokes I put into these....   

Today's Tool Of The Day isn't a multitool in its own right, but a highly desirable (and long discontinued) accessory- the Leatherman Standard Universal Tool Adaptor.

There were two versions of the UTA, with this being the earlier version- and as the name implies, it is (fairly) universal, fitting most butterfly opening plier tools, including those from other manufacturers like Gerber, Bear and Victorinox.

What do you choose when you want to do everything but you don't want to carry around a big, bulky tool?  Simple- you grab something like this original Victorinox MiniChamp!

Later versions added more versatility with a combo tool, but this early version was no slouch, including regular tools like the spear point blade, nail file, flathead screwdriver and scissors, but also features tools not normally found elsewhere like the wharncliffe blade, small ruler, nail file, cuticle pusher and orange peeler.

When it comes to being stylish outdoors, few multitools can match the Leatherman Signal, available in several colors like this turquoise one.

Yeah, I had to order this one because no local stores had that color in stock.  I can honestly say that if I was getting one for myself it likely would be coyote brown or that nice red color.

If you want to talk about innovative features on tools you really need to look at SOG tools like this PowerAccess Assist.

It has the usual exceptional SOG features like the Compound Leverage and the bit holder located under the plier head, but also has protractor functions and four (count em! FOUR!) assisted opening blades- plain and serrated, wood saw and V-Cutter!

This was the last Knife Of The Year we had done, and shortly afterwards Wenger was rebranded as Victorinox Delemont Series and the Secret Order of Swiss Army Knives  was reborn as the Swiss Army Knights, and moved to their new home at Multitool.org.

This tool is so cool we couldn't help but brand it!  This is the Multitool.org Edition Gerber MP600 Pro Scout that we did almost sixteen years ago, in the early days of the site!

The Pro Scout is cool because it is an MP600, but it is even cooler because it has a replaceable saw blade (standard jigsaw bits), a full Phillips screwdriver and Fiskars scissors in addition to all the regular stuff.

As we get closer to the 16th Anniversary of Multitool.org I get a bit nostalgic- and that explains today's Tool Of The Day, an Opinel No.9 with a high carbon blade.

You see, when trying to decide what kind of site to start I considered many options, one of which was to start an Opinel enthusiast site because there are a lot of things to love about these knives.  The thin, high carbon blades sharpen up like scalpers and cut like laser beams, and many people carve the wood handles into beautiful, custom designs.

In the end I chose to go with the broader appeal of multitools, which lead us down a winding path to where we are now.  We've had our ups and downs, but I'm glad with where we are, and I look forward to where we are going next!  Happy Anniversary from everyone here at Multitool.org, to everyone who has been a part of our community!

Today we are looking at my favorite version of the Leatherman Skeletool, in coyote tan.

With no extra functional differences from the standard Skeletool, this one stands out only because of it's colour, but I'm okay with that- I think it looks really sharp, no pun intended!
