Some of you may have seen my post in the Social Media thread, about things being put on hold for a little while.

I was unable to form the words yesterday, as my mother passed away.

I am now home, with my family, where a person belongs at such times, and my brother and I are doing our best to console my father, whose entire life revolved around her.  In between our own breakdowns that is.

I was lucky to have my mother in my life for almost 50 years, and I know I am still lucky to have my father.  I know many of you haven't been as fortunate, and I have been loathe to post about it and rub it in to those who haven't been as fortunate as I have been and continue to be.

But, you all deserve to know what's going on, and so I am telling you.  I didn't want to derail the Social Media thread, so I'm doing it here.

Thanks everyone.  We met with the funeral home yesterday and made all the arrangements.  Now it is time to try and sort out all of the accounts, taxes, utilities etc.

Mom was (mostly) a stay at home mom back when that was just called a "mom" although she did work from time to time.  Dad earned most of the family income, but Mom always managed the money, paid the bills etc.  We are very lucky that she was as organized as she was, as we found everything we needed with very little effort.  Even though she isn't here anymore, she is still looking after us.

It's an odd feeling- being home with my family is absolute heaven for me (and how could it not?  Even covered in snow it is beautiful here) but that just makes Mom's absence much more difficult.  I keep expecting her to come around the corner with a smile on her face.

As hard as it is for myself, my brother and his family, it is harder for my father.  My brother and I have lives elsewhere, but my father is going to be here, all alone. 

I'm able to spend about two weeks here, coupling what is left of my vacation and some bereavement leave, so I'm going to be here for a while at least and help with everything I can.
