 Day 11

Packed our fishing gear and rode our bikes to the creek close by. Crunch came along for the ride too and took the customary stab the tree pic with the serrated blade which felt a bit odd.

Day 11

Nice pics guys  :like:

I have used the Crunch this morning. I used the file to clean a water pipe ground clamp that I needed to reuse. And I used the locking pliers to tighten a ground rod clamp.

If there’s one thing the Crunch can do it’s that it can function as a 3rd hand.
I often find myself in that situation. Seems a Crunch would be a good solution. :tu:

It’s either my fingernails are long or the can opener is too short. I hate it when I have to use a tool on another tool. Used the flat driver of the Crunch to help clean my SwissTool RS. Either the RS is dirty, needs more oiling, or I just need to use it more. It’s driving me nuts that the short implements have suddenly become nail breakers!

My problem is that I chew my finger nails  :-[  At home I am always within reach of another MT and when I go out I've got lanyard with a hard plastic end cap that I use as nail nick.

Showing Zephon my lanyard attachment which I use as a nail nick to get tools out. It’s very easy to get tools out my Crunch though and it’s not needed. Too easy to my liking actually.

Yes, those two short tools are difficult to open.  I think the main reason is that the nail nick is too close to the pivot.  Normally, all of my nail-busters are on Victorinox tools, but those two tools are strong contenders.

Day 13

Replaced worn off bicycles shoe cleats using the Crunch and a Torque Wrench. Used the pin vise for the first time ever to pick out some dirt. Needed a 3mm Allen so had to use the 1/4” Hex Bit holder. The cleat bolts are tightened to 5Nm and had to do the pistol grip to get them loose. The frame flexed quite a bit doing that
but seem to be ok when I checked later.

FYI, LM flat bits can be used too even though they came out after the Crunch.   Not by design I guess but it works.

Just a glamour pic today.  Crunch x Handyman.  It’s a decent combination, don’t you think?

We’re heading to a couple of religious holy days this (Maundy) Thursday and (Good) Friday.  Being a country that’s mostly Catholic, there’s a sense of….solemnity in the air.  My Dad used to have this superstition that it’s bad luck to do manual labor on those holy days — hence his reverence for those days.  Anyway, nobody said you can’t EDC gear during the holidays.

Sure is. I awlways thought the "Handyman" was a bit oddly configured, given its name. I'd think a handyman would find a Phillips screwdriver more useful than a corkscrew.

Rich, are you thinking of taking the 15-day option yet?

When I first started, I wasn't sure.  Now that we're almost at the 15-day mark already, I think I'm going for the full 30 days  :tu:

No use for the Crunch today.

I am trying to make lemonade out of my lemon of an OG Wave. I have cleaned it up and sanded a lot of the scratches out. The plier pivot is worn and has some wiggle, but I can live with that. The diamond file and the saw are in great shape. But I am still stuck on what to do in place of the damaged blades. So far, my replacement ideas have not worked.  :dunno:

It's a shame that someone treated that poor Wave so badly (much like my new JPST that some lummox sharpened with a grinder). Maybe keep an eye out for OG Waves that are parts donors, but have good blades? :dunno:

I have an OG Wave on the way that should be in good shape. So I plan to make this OG Wave into a functional multi tool without worrying about using all OG Wave parts.

My problem at the moment is with how the blades lock. None of my spare blades have quite enough metal on the backend to engage the liner lock properly. I may have to try my hand with my dad's MIG welder to add a little meat on that end.

Used the Crunch to do a scale swap on a couple of MiniChamps. I’ll leave that up to your imagination but the idea is we had a couple of MiniChamps - both took a fall from the shelf and have scale damage. One broke a backspring. Essentially, I got all the good scales and placed it on the good knife. The other goes to the parts bin.

Sorry to hear about your MiniChamps. Good job salvaging one.

Maybe shape the damaged blades to other tools. Chisel, package opener, ice pick, spreader like in the flair?

Day 14

Tried the Wire Cutter and Wire Stripper with some 18 and 14 Gauge wires I had lying around. Not a real task, just playing around to see what they are capable of. Wished I had some 10-12 Gauge to try too.

The cutters worked great on the 14 Gauge but did not cleanly cut the 18 Gauge. I think the plier head has some play and the wire jacket would get caught in between the cutters. This might be because mine are old.

There is a learning curve to use the wire stripper. Especially the 18 Gauge because it's difficult to tell if you are pressing too hard. Press too hard and the wire cuts all the way through. But it works once you get a feel to it.

Also brought in my dedicated side cutter and wire stripper to compare. As expected they were much easier to use and did a better job.
