Based on the hourly rate I pay to electricians, I suspect you guys are getting paid the same as me... and I'm still paying my student loans (I graduated 18 years ago).

A large portion of the hourly rate goes toward overhead costs. I feel like I am paid very well for an electrician (though obviously not nearly as well as Tennessee masons and Minnesota general contractor/handyman/whatever it is that Steve does), but my wage is only a quarter of the company's hourly rate.

Still working in the kids’ room. Used the knife to remove a plastic cover on one of the beds.

I'd like to meet those Tennessee masons you speak of that are well paid :ahhh :ahhh

We make a decent wage and I can't complain ;)  :D

Day 5

Got a flat on a bike ride last weekend and I used the spare tube I carry to get home. Used the crunch to fix the punctured tube so I have a good spare tube for my ride this evening.

I could have done this without the Crunch but it was there and was helpful as a third hand.

If you would have done that on the road, it would have been a perfect Leatherman commercial  :tu:

:)  I use to carry a patch kit and a portable pump to repair tubes on the road if I get multiple flats. Now I am going the minimalist approach and will uber home if I get a 2nd flat.

Day 4

I am taking time off from work, so there is plenty of time for a boy to spend with his Crunch:

Day 5

I decided to test the wire cutters today. This is what I discovered:

1) The cutters easily cut 14 awg copper wire and coat hanger wire, just as you would expect from a Leatherman product.

2) Like the PST, the cutters are short and do not cut Romex cable efficiently. Two cuts are required.

3) Given the design of the tool, cutting wire is a process. The jaws must be adjusted so that they are closed in order to bring the cutting edges together. The tool tends to unfold while in this position, making it tedious to make more than one cut.

That's pretty impressive.  I wouldn't have been brave enough to try a coat hanger.

And welcome to the party, Surge and Poncho.  Please post guest pics as often as you like  :tu:

I've cut coat hangers with cheap MTs, so I figured the Crunch would have no trouble. But I wouldn't dare cut a nail with it  :ahhh

I've cut the wire in flexible HVAC ducting with my Rebar. I wouldn't try that with a Leatherman that has fixed wire cutters, though. Replaceable wire cutters are a win-win in my book.

Great photos from awl. I've no Crunch to show, but I'll keep checking in!

Day 6

April 6

For me, the challenging part about this challenge is using what I consider a secondary tool as a primary. Add that to the fact that I eventually discovered the 100mm Knipex Cobra which can slip comfortably in an inner pouch of a stock LM nylon sheath.  One of my main uses for a Crunch is comfortably clamping or holding something a ST300 plier head would be awkward to grip on to.  I now have a dedicated tool for that in my carry, which leaves the Crunch back in its original intent of being locking pliers.

Day 5

I found my parse tools  :woohoo:

I didn't have a lot of spare time today, but I was able to mount the Sidekick clip on the Crunch, and it fit perfectly.  It fit, feels, and looks like it was made for the Crunch  :tu:  The finish is slightly different (the clip has more of a matte finish), so I might polish up the clip a little.

I feel the same as you, Zephon. I hardly ever need locking pliers, and I carry 125mm Knipex Cobra on me for dealing with nuts, bolts, and pipes.

Nice !  Did you have to modify anything to get it to fit ?

I didn't have to modify anything.  I was originally going to do the usual Kick clip mod, but I read that you have to file down the Kick pivot a little since it's just a little too long for a Crunch.  I didn't want to do that, so I decided to try the Sideclip clip first. There is just a tiny bit of side-to-side play, but I think that's typical for these type of clips.

Day 6

Wanted to use the Philips and it would not go pass the small flat head. A closer look revealed that the flat head had twisted out of shape at the edges. Come to think, it was user error on my part several years ago and forgot about it.

Was able to fix it with some light hammering and grinding. Lesson learnt is not to over torque the small flat. I guess that goes for all MTs.

Day 6

Used the Crunch as a clamp to hold a wood saw onto my bench vise. I filled the hole with silver solder so that I could redrill a pivot hole.

Let us know how well the solder holds up.  I was doing research on how to reduce the size of a pivot hole, and I read that the best way is to use a brass tube then drill that to the correct width.  The solder sounds much, much easier, but I assume it's much softer too.
