:iagree:   :salute:

Though I am looking forward to getting the Explorer Plus or SwissChamp back in my pocket.

Yep, my (very small) collection has been growing and I am looking forward to trying out some of my recent additions!

Day 25

Spartan opened a package for new knife day. After messing around with my buddy's TL-29 for a bit, I decided to track one down on ebay. This was obviously someone's beater, but it's cleaning up alright. Maybe I'll cheat on the SAKs and try it for a challenge later this year.

Day 19: I mucked about getting my Marklin set back together. Accomplished getting about half the track clean, and finally replacing the mangled rail joiners.  Used the SD to adjust some screws on locomotives and adjusting connectors. Squirt EL did most of the work.

The Henschel is a budget version that is pretty wimpy--it can only pull two cars as only the back axle is powered (instead of all three like the regular one). The DRG Class 89.0 is considerably better but has many issues relating to it having been run on the carpet and used previously as a kid's plaything. I think I may have to replace a gear or two, and the pickup shoe was missing. Step two, next month is completely overhauling both locomotives and buying a standard Henschel.

Eventually, I'm replacing the metal M-Track with C-Track, for reliability reasons (and since a lot of the track came with the beat up kid played with set, several bits are damaged). I also plan to buy a decent big transformer. I got one that was "tested working" but was DOA. Thus, I have my small transformer, intended for starter sets; which can't run more than a small loop; and switches are out of the question.

Marklin isn't very popular in the States ,so I'm sure my chances of happening on a super-cheap loco at a flea market are slim.  My set was built from three used lots of Marklin bits and bobs, and it probably cost me $75, not counting a transformer I bought 5 years ago and sat on until I found something cheap. I keep meaning on switching to American Flyer S or Lionel O, but I don't have the room for a layout. An HO layout fits on the seldom-used dining room table, while anything bigger doesn't. I have a cheap Lionel LionChief O-scale set I got on sale years ago, but just the small round track it comes with is gigantic.

:iagree: too.  My Swisschamp is calling for me!  I'm in the minority in that I actually like the pliers.  The Spartan is a wonderful tool to carry, but I have to admit that I miss my gadgets  :D

yes! Had one from my USCG days, gave it to a buddy collector before I knew I was. Got  beater on the bay also. Maybe I'll learn some repair techniques.

Day 18: Some fun with a Hot Wheels Tooligan.
If I remember, I'll see if that one was discussed in the Cheap and Cheerful section. :D

:like: I haven't found a Kutmaster electrician's knife yet. Someday! I'll get out another Camillus 27 for my next entry in the Dean 30-day challenge.

Day 18 (slightly late)

No use today, but I remembered to find my one pen that doesn't scream out "I'm cheap!"

I like the pliers too - it’s why I bought the Deluxe Tinker.

That said, I’ve also picked up a Camper and a Climber recently that I want to give their due. I’m especially interested in seeing if I get much use out of the saw.

Day 19: Unknotted a bag with some car cleaning supplies.  I know, it's a plastic bag, but it's a challenge!

Honestly, a knot in a plastic bag is WAY worse than a tight knot in actual cord or rope!

Powernoodle Day 19

In light of the (apparent) PS4 shortage, I thought it was time for a little fondling.

DAY 19  Feeling much better today, so I went fishing!   I took this Spartan because it has a pocket clip attached.  No fishes were harmed in the making of this photo, but a bad day fishing is better than a good day working.

Day 19 (so far…)

Remember how I used my Tourist to open a package containing another, older Tourist?

Well, here it is all cleaned up and oiled!

I’m carrying it today. No uses so far but it’s still early afternoon here in the Pacific Time Zone, so who knows what could happen???

Also a big fan of the Deluxe Tinker.  I only wish that it could have an inline phillips screwdriver.

I saw a car or two in recent posts and thought I'd pull out my only little car.
1970 Petty Superbird.  Has to be the coolest stockcar ever in Nascar.

As a precaution against forgetting which side the edge is on the blade, here's an after pic.  Sorry no action picture for this.

Day 19, used the Serrated Spartan and a Super Tinker I had laying around in an attempt to tighten up some loose rubber grips on a Kershaw Delly Wade Officer I had. I think it'll require glue to close up the huge gap at the pivot end between the liner and rubber grip.

Day 26

New knife day two days in a row, oh boy! Spartan posing with an Excelsior. I'd never seen one of the slim 84s in person before.  It's very slim, and lighter than I expected. My daughter says it looks cool. Not sure how I feel about the key ring, might try to file it off.

Day 19 (cont.)

I used the main blade on my new old Tourist to open a new bag of dog food. No picture since I was also trying to keep the dog out of the bag at the same time…

The blades needed a little sharpening when I got it. I normally use the ceramic “V” on the end of the Vic Pocket Sharpener and find it gets most of my blades sharp enough to cut the edge of a piece of paper.

I don’t normally go for an edge sharp enough to shave the hair off my arm though. For one thing, I like my arms at their current level of hairiness. For another, if a SAK is sharp enough to cut the edge of a piece of copy paper, it’s plenty sharp enough for anything I use a SAK blade for.

So I usually don’t worry about it too much.
