What would you recommend?
on: May 31, 2022, 03:25:42 PM
I have a friend who lives in South Africa but works for 10 months of the year in the USA. Last year he brought back a Buck Ranger 112 which I absolutely love.
He is wanting to do the same this year and has asked me what I would like. From what I understand he normally orders from Amazon. I don't want to be greedy so the question is as follows:
"What knife would you choose between say $30-$40?"

I am looking for a good beater type pocket carry knife.

I'd say to take a look at some knife brands' sites and see what catches your eye. Even here, you can see lots of pics and comments on different models/brands.

Depending on what you like, you have Case knives for more traditional, Kershaw and CRKT for more "modern" looks.

Here, check this video. It has a ton of brands for you to start:

For US made, at that price, you may want to look at some Case xx models, like the Sodbuster.
You can also have a look in this shop, in the under 50 range to get ideas https://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_store.html?listingid=1298&a=folder&min_price=0&max_price=50&s=1

I can whole heartedly recommend the buck 110 or 112 slim select knives. They are very good quality, carry great and can be bought for about 30 dollars. They also have a right or left hand carry pocket clip and come in a great range of colors, perfect for us southpaws :tu:

There really are a lot of options, even given a limited budget.

I’m assuming by “pocket carry knife” you mean a folder rather than a fixed blade, but answers to following questions would help narrow down the choices:

1. Do you want a single blade or multiple blades?

2. If single blade, locking or non-locking?

3.  Roughly what length closed OR what blade length do you have in mind?

There are a lot of options in that price range.  It'll be neat to hear what you end up with.
