Just noticed on Reddit that apparently Leatherman filed a patent that shows images of an interchangeable blades. Maybe this Leatherman Garage 3, which is being released on August 23rd 2022 will be that?  Here is a link that has that patent information.  Pretty neat to see this.

I speculate those blades are for an exchanger, like on a Surge. Would be interested if it is a knife-based tool.

Wonder if they'll use something other than 420 steel?  Have to admit I am not the biggest fan of the finish on those blade.  Guess we'll see what they decide.

Interchangeable blades but not a quick change. Looks like you have to unscrew it

Not too impressed by this one.

Interchangeable blade knives are a pretty good idea--I have an Outdoor Edge Razor Lite EDC 3.5 I was given some years ago, and I tend to use it for any jobs that need a longer blade than a standard utility knife and a more comfortable handle than my Gerber EAB, and it's great to be able to simply change out the blade. However, the whole system is pretty low-cost, same with going with just a utility knife and the blades available for those. The Gerber EAB is now a permanent edition to my EDC, after simply just using it as a craft knife for 4 years.

If this was a big deal to me--I would likely go with the Roxon Phantasy and Phantom. Yes, I'm not a fan of its country of origin, but I can buy the Roxon Phantom and its entire assortment of available blades for just under $80, and just over $130 if you decide to include the Phantasy multitool in the system. All blades are quick-change, and you have a knife and multitool that can be outfitted with an assortment of eleven blades.   Going by previous Garage releases, this will be either equal to, or more expensive than the whole Roxon Phantasy/Phantom system.

I'd rather have seen a solid Free-series addition with a T-shank holder.

Happy to see S30V and 154CM.  Yay Leatherman.  420HC is ok but we are well past that steel for dedicated knives IMO.

I would be in at $89.  But this will prolly be in the $199 - $249 range.  I keep looking down at my leg, and its not tingling.  So I'll prolly pass on this one but who knows.

Might be more useful if the blade options included serrations, files, saw, etc?

So looking at the pictures.  It doesnt look like the blade sits in the handle like most knives.  The yellow "holder" and blue thumb stud appear the be how it fits in.

There doesn't appear to be a pivot hole needed on the blade.  Maybe a take on the Blade Exchanger?

The bit holder must fit inside the handle just below the lanyard loop, surely?
It’s going to get lost otherwise, then you’ve got an expensive, ugly folder and a useless spare blade.

I missed the sale but for $215 I wouldn't have bothered anyways  not impressed by this really :dunno:

The Mr Crunch was cool and innovated the Darkside was less interesting but I was still suckered into the whole Garage thing but this leaves me feeling way less impressed ::) :D

Maybe #4 will be better  :D

Still block me from buying  I tried my work contact, no dice. As long as my home address entered for billing, I would not be able to pay. Try my nephew name and phone, no dice either.

LMT holds grudge indefinitely against my home address LOL.

Congrat to those snatched this one. $215 is a bit steep for S30V and 154CM (not even CPM-154 lol) these days. It is definitely cool as a collector piece.  :tu:

:tu: To LM for another fast sellout.  To those who got one post pics and let us know what you think.  Also let us know how those blade are changed.

Do we have specs on the size?  Looks big but pictures are hard to judge by.

If anything I hope this does start up a new lineup of Leatherman knives. I wanted to catch this one but missed it. After looking at the pictures and info again I'm ok with waiting for a production version. I wonder how many of these garage releases they are going to have before introducing new tools or knives?
