Even though these Garage releases won't please everyone, I think they are fun and inject some much needed life into the MT EDC/collecting/hoarding continuum.

No, everybody knows that your focus is on Mini Tools  :P

Seriously, you have enough interest in the Charge that you have collected multiple varieties. The Darkside, as long as it wasn't priced beyond what you could afford, belongs in your collection. You could live with out it, but it does fit in with what you have.

I like the Charge, but I converted the only one I had into 2 knives and I don't know when I will buy another one. So, I don't feel like I am missing out. But if latest Garage release had been related to the E4/ES4 in some way and I missed out on getting one, I would be in a funk right now  :D

I can agree with that :D You definitely need a plier based Charge though :pok: and preferably keep it in one piece  :D

I am happy I have one on the way but definitely still feel as though this should have just been a special edition and not a Garage release ::)

I do wish they would release these type tools worldwide because many of you guys and other serious collectors worldwide need a chance at these from Leatherman and not ebay

I see that one of the usual suspects from Utah on eBay has one sold and one available for $850. I pray they cancel his order this time.

That being said, it is a cool tool. I got one. But I considered the Mr Crunch to be more of a special tool. I really wouldn’t have paid much more for this. I can’t see the scalpers getting the same money for this one.  They are probably eventually going to have to come down if they wanna move a lot of them.

Dunno, honestly  I sent less than 10 out of hundreds of Leatherman tools I owned in for warranty claims. I bought from their website a few times in multiples. They said something about me being reselling / forwarding... and blacklisted me since. My brother bought multiple on-sale sheaths for me once, he cannot buy anything from their website again since. In conclusion, buying on-sale items in multiples may land you on their naughty list. Not sure about others, that's my situation, and how I missed the first garage release as well.

I suspect that a lot of people buy damaged Leathermans from eBay at greatly reduced prices, then send them to Leatherman for warranty repair/replacement.  Even if that's not what you are doing, I can see how on their end it might appear that way.  Maybe a polite call to customer service can get you off of their black list.

I would like to see LM release the prototypes, give everyone an hour to pull the trigger, then make that many with a limit of one per person. I think a lot more customers would be happy, it would still be limited edition, and it would neutralize the scalpers a little bit by lowering potential buyers.  A win for everyone but the scalpers.

That seems like it would be a good model to go by

There would still be scalpers but it might put the tool into regular buyers much better :tu:

GB, that would be the perfect answer and reasoning for a limited series; are you reading this LTG/TG!?!

I guess Leatherman only wants to cater to Americans now. Thinking I might walk away from them again as a collector. The first Garage tool I was able to get 1 by sheer luck. This time around, Leatherman firmly gave the finger to anyone who is not American by only selling 1 per person. Here is my finger back at you Leatherman.
A little Leatherman information.

The screw on the pliers is interesting. So many Leathermans these days come from the factory too-tight, and often, they don't loosen up over time. I suspect this may be their way of an idea to reduce warranty claims--though I'd bet no one will EDC theirs.

This is... extremely disappointing. Unless the pliers turn out to be something significant this is just adding a g10 liner to a g10 charge, and the already developed Nasa Charge 'scale' tools.

This feels like what a Charge should be vs a wave, but there's no innovation here to see.

on the otherhand, it is about $4700 less for those additional tools

I think that I might be out of the Garage Tool game. I got the first two, but something about it is rubbing me wrong. Like I said earlier, A company should cater to their loyal customers.  Put out the prototype and give people an hour to order one, then make that many, shipping them out 6-8 weeks later. This would kill the eBay buzz, keep it somewhat limited edition, and strip the scalpers of potential buyers.

Somehow I highly doubt it. But having an employee check in on forums, even as a collateral duty, to see what customers want is a smart business strategy.

The resellers will find a way.  They can have friends/family do the buying which is easiest.  Its all part of the buzz.  Mr Crunch is neat but this tool not so much what I was thinking as a LM Garage tool.

Good luck to all.

Sad but true, they will find a way. My countermeasure is not enabling them.

I tried to buy a Mr Crunch just to see if I could from LM.  As I was inputting my cc info the item was gone from my cart.  I'd imagine anyone who REALLY wanted this tool would have used other means to get it.  Paying up unfortunately is part of this dang hobby sometimes.

I remember when I was looking at a BO PST.  I had seen a few I wanted but missed the auction.  It was months before I saw another and paid up only to see another a week later for much less.

It cannot be stopped, the resellers inflating price of limited editions.  Not buying is great for our wallets but there will always be those with bigger budgets and whose desires are greater.

I am happy LM is trying to give everyone a fair shot.  At least that what they seem to be doing.  I've not done business on the bay of fleas in a long while.

I really hope whoever wants one can get one.

While I like this idea, I suspect that manufacturing times are much longer.  It would probably be more like 6 to 8 months.

I may be the only person on MTO who has a contrary view on the subject, but I'm okay with that.  A person who paid close attention to his inbox, and who quickly got on the Leatherman website, had an excellent chance of landing a Darkside.  It really wasn't that difficult.  There were 900 Darksides available, which is plenty to cover the people who were willing to pay attention.  A person who could not or would not do that didn't get one - and that's the way it should be.  That's what makes the Garage offerings special.  If Leatherman sold 10,000 Darksides, then none of them would be special.  Blaming someone else  - which is all the rage these days - or wanting to change the rules wholly misses the point.

This has nothing to do with people who sell on eBay, who are just as entitled to buy a Darkside as is the most devoted Leatherman collector.  Calling them names doesn't solve your problem, because you'll be complaining again after Garage offering #3.  Its a matter of paying close attention to your inbox at the appointed time, and acting within the first few minutes of the release.  Do it or don't do it.  Not everyone can do it, because many people have jobs and can't hop on the website on short notice, or they live outside the United States.  So be it.  But either way, the responsibility rests with the individual to get the job done.  If you didn't place your order within the first 15 or 30 minutes, its not eBay's fault.

I have a feeling that Leatherman as a company feels the same.  They caught flack for letting people buy two Mr. Crunch tools, so they cut it back to one on the website.  After that, I doubt that they care a whole lot, and any responses are pretty much lip service for the most part.  As for these tools going for a grand on eBay, it could be seen as a good thing in their eyes.

Yeah and I think they went from 500 units the first time to 900 this time.  By limiting the purchase to 1 this time, they effectively almost quadrupled the number of potential individual buyers.

Thanks Aloha but not a chance this time. I will not pay through the nose prices for one on eBay either. I had hoped that Leatherman would have opened them up to others...but this time, they ensured that only Americans can get them. I am very close to walking away from Leatherman again. I find them the most infuriating company to deal with since 2014/15.

I'm not really following the logic here.     How is Leatherman limiting the release to one per person is unfair to you or anyone else ? If people were able to get two then even less people might have one in their hands. There are less than 20 out of 900 being sold on ebay at the moment so it seems like more than 95 % are in the hands of people that are probably going to keep them.

As far as Canada being excluded well so is the rest of the world.    :dunno:

Having said that I do wish you luck in finding one  :tu:
