Some of you US residents have likely never seen a failed delivery receipt.  If you are from Portugal or Aussie, of course this is all new.

I got this from the cute letter carrier.  What do you do with it?  Take it to the post office with some identification and claim your mail.  The counter worker checks your ID, takes the receipt and fetches the mail.  Then they keep the receipt and use it to log the transaction.  You can also reschedule a delivery with the information on the receipt.  I put the little SAKs on the package number and my address.  No need to make that public.
So, I will take the receipt tomorrow and try to claim the package.  We will see.  Best wishes. Gary

No, actually, I've seen my fair share of "you were not at home or I was just to lazy to ring and walk up a few flights of stairs" notes in my mailbox. You have to take it to the post office, they check your ID, you sign the note and get your letter/package.

Well, I went back through the box and picked out two more things.  Shoot me.  I'm easily tempted.
I found a Tinker with see through red scales.  Missing scale tools.   Can opener and caplifter lazy.  Got to push the tools shut.  I will fiddle with it.
That might be the last.  Oh yeah.  I grabbed a Bijou.  No key ring on these things makes them less practical to carry around.  It was cute.  And dirty.  And lonely.
I will add some stuff.  I think this is all.  I'm not very good at packing things, but I will give it my best.  Probably get down to the post office Thursday.  Worlds of stuff still in the box.  Better stuff than what I kept.  Except maybe for the Leatherman.  I am taking a shine to it.   :D :D :D  Best wishes.  Gary

I've encountered a few at the PO who get stuck in neutral as well.  I tend to nudge them to the Priority boxes.  Most don't bring tape or pens so they just go with the high price box they already have.  Most are unaware of the priority boxes.

Its a no brainer for me.  If it fits,,,,,,,,  I have stuffed these boxes to where the clerk gives me a look,,,,,,,,,, it ships.  The box is bulging with my duck tape strangling it like a boa constrictor.

Glad you found a few more things to keep.  Scale tools are fairly priced and easy to come by as are small split rings.  I replace the scale tools on any new to me SAK.  I very good wash is also done on all new to me SAKs.  Its surprising how much snap comes back to what looks to be well worn SAKs.

Glad you got your first LM.  The Wingman was a first for me too.  It hold a special place for me.

I'm having a slow start today.  I might keep the little Bijou.  I might throw it back in the box with its friends.  I know you are not supposed to say what you put in the box, or what is in it when you get it.  That probably means that I not supposed to say I am putting my autographed copy of 'Do it Yourself Tattoos with just a Swiss Army Knife and a Bic Pen' book in the surprise box.
Some of the Bijou models are like a Classic SD, but without a keyring attachment.  This one is like a regular Classic, without the keyring attachment.  Maybe they intended them for use in a lady's handbag?  They would work in a purse or hand clutch well.  Keyrings are almost a must with 58mm models.  Too easy to lose otherwise.  I don't like keyrings on 91mm models and always take them off.  They bother me and foul the back tools.  Some people use them for a tassel or cord.  I haven't really gotten into that.  I did used to put a bootlace through the hole on my ubiquitous green knife when I went to the woods.  You REALLY can't afford to lose your tools in the wilds.  It also gave me a spare bootlace which wasn't a bad idea.  Best wishes.  Gary

I tried to put the little white Bijou back in the box, but it screamed.  I couldn't do it.  I have repacked the box, taped it up, and pasted on a shipping label.  The post office is closed for holiday today, but I plan on dropping it off tomorrow.  I just sent NutSAK a reminder.  I will send him the tracking number.  Best wishes.  Gary

I would toss a small item like the Bijou in my shirt pocket.  I like shirts with pockets.  I keep my chapstick there.

DIY tattoos with the SAK could be interesting.  The ones with pins could be a great tool for that.  I guess the pen on it would also be a all in one DIY tattoo tool?

Some good picks, Gary! Of course, it wasn't until I'd gotten the box shipped that I remembered I have a surplus of brand-new scale tools. The closest Victorinox dealer to you that I'm aware of is Smoky Mountain Knife Works...and you'd need considerable restraint to walk out of there with just new scale tools. :D

I will admit that when I received, every item was wrapped and bagged.  Took about an hour and a half just to unpack and lay the items out onto my Aggravation board.

Then after selections took me twice as long to repackage so awl would fit plus the additional items.

Crazy how this grows… kinda like one of those sourdough bread rescues that get past around.
Luv seeing what is selected.

PS: so glad I did not keep the cute purple blade, so Katherine could claim it as her own.

Looking back on the Sos mystery box experience, it was a lot of fun.  I saw a lot of things that I had never seen before and will never see again.  I sent information about the expected arrival date and tracking number to NutSAK but haven't heard anything from him yet.
Thanks for the kind words from everyone during my one time turn at the box.  It was indeed a unique experience.  I am enjoying the little toys that I picked for myself, and hope the next contestants have just as much fun.  I am particularly liking the Leatherman adventure.  You don't think I will turn into a Leathermaniac, do you?  Best wishes.  Gary

This box experience is exactly what MTO is about.  Not only talking about the things we love but sharing the things we love.

I am glad you got in on this IMR, I am especially happy you have your first Leatherman.  I'm not sure what more fun tho, picking out something or putting more into the box for the next recipient  :dunno:

@LC, she went to a conference over the weekend and she toted that cute purple knife the whole time.  It was nice to share the contents with her as she's been terrifically supportive and quite the enabler over the years.

Its a fun process to lay out all the items and have a play with each.  I'll have to take a look at our Aussie brethren to see how their box is doing.

Maybe they can move it along to others if they find it stalling like we did ours.

Before, nobody wanted the box so those who received it had to hold it for months at a time, and now, it has a list of willing participants and less than a day for typical forwarding time.  Now all we need to know is who is going to be next on the list?

The side is bashed in some too.  I don't see how anybody could have poked their hand through that cut in the side, do you?  Stuff was bagged up good, and it is doubtful anything could have fallen out.  Open it up and see.  Did you call the damage to the postal folks?  Check the tape on the bottom.  If anybody meddles with the contents, they generally slice the bottom and then tape it back over.  Should be evidence of somebody pulling the tape off or taping back over the old tape.  They did that at UPS here several years ago.  Got an employee fired.  You can also check the weight against the number on the shipping label on top.  Best wishes.  Gary

The outside dimensions of the box are printed on the side.  So, the height of the box is 6 inches, right?  That would make the gouge about two inches and a half maybe?  Nobody could put their hand through that.  Maybe somebody could fish out something with a piece of wire.  Even then it would be hard to get anything out.  Especially since you don't know what is in it.  I don't see how anything could have fallen out.  Something might have gotten damaged by whatever pushed through the side.  Best bet is to verify the weight against the shipping label weight that was placed on the box when it was shipped.  They never would have accepted a box with a hole in the side at the post office here.  Probably a piece of equipment poked the hole in the side during shipping.  I mentioned the side was bashed in.  The side on the right side of the photo looks beat up a little was what I was referring to.  Not enough to damage anything, I wouldn't think.  Best wishes.  Gary

It's clear to me from the marks on the side of the box that is just slid against something, and the gouge wasn't intentional.  There's no way that anything was pulled out or fell out of the box.  Everthing inside was still arranged neatly, so it wasn't obviously mishandled.
