Happy New Year!  :hatsoff:

I'm going to try and use the same Classic for this entire challenge- so my main contender will be this Classic SD Alox.

(Image removed from quote.)

so far i've used the main blade to slice open a box of delicious ginger tea

I have 'classic' jealousy  :tu:

Day 1

Keychain exchange, Executive to Classic SD. This is, I think, my second longest owned SAK. It was my EDC when I started dating my wife (she jokes that I pulled it on her on our first date when I snipped a thread for her). It became her EDC for a while when I stepped up to a Rambler, and is now her desk knife for mail and stuff in place of another Classic (which we'll see later, I'm sure.) No uses today.

Day 1:
My wife and I spent New Years Eve in Spokane last night. We did some shopping and went to the comedy club to see our favorite comedian. We had a great time. Woke up to some nasty fog. So far, I've used my mint Alox Classic SD to snip a few threads off of a new shirt, and my wife used it to snip off a piece of broken fingernail. I've got a bunch of classics, but I'll be carrying this one for a while

Day 1 - Happy New Year!

The Classic was busy today with pulling old wax out of a wax burner bowl, then freeing some batteries from their prison (for the Pocket Tool Chest over on the left), then finally cutting down the battery package so it can fit in it's predetermined resting place.

Made a couple lanyards for the neighbor kids.  The knife handled the paracord without issue.

I've been wanting to learn how to weave paracord but I already have too many hobbies....  :climber:

Nice alox.  Is that a navy blue or black?

DAY 2

Getting ready to head to work early this morning and noticed that the very windy weather over night had ripped a large section of the roofing felt off the childrens play shed.

With a spare roll of tared felt remaining and classic to hand, I used the nail file to lift all the roofing tacks required then cut and fitted the new sections....the nail file struggled with the job, but worked out well.

Now if SAKs had hammers, the whole task would have been a one tool job

There are actually a lot of how-to videos on YT for paracord knot tying.  It is actually fairly easy.

The color is more a blue-purple called Night Dive

Just a little find the hidden Classics in the photo.  Same game we used to play in the MiniChamp challenge.  Simple rules.  How many classics do you see in the heavily camouflaged background?  Very tricky and difficult.  Best wishes.  Gary

While I'm at it, I would like to commend Gra on his comprehensive Classic usage.  Roofing felt and pulling tacks normally would be thought as beyond the scope of a 58mm teeny tiny.  I hate to think what the wee knifey will look like at the end of 30 days.
A big thumbs up for Sos making gifts for the kids.  That's good stuff.  Lots of good photos from awl.  You may have noticed from my first post that I have went lightweight on my lanyard (loss prevention device).  Same shoelace.  Same knots.  The quick detach mechanism is now a pink paperclip.  Pink was what I happened to have in the appropriate size, but it looks perky along with the blue Classic.  I think.   :D

No guesses for how many Classics are hidden in the photo?  Might have made this one too hard.  Best wishes.  G

old Lefty for this challenge please try to stick to using knives that just have the classic toolset:
blade, file and scissors

58mm knives that qualify for this challenge are the Classic, Classic SD, Classic SD Alox, SwissLite, Signature, Signature lite, Companion Alox, Tomo, DeLuxe, Ensign, Bijou, Broker, RocKnives (58mm) and the Duchess

if the task requires you to use something other than the classic toolset just explain what tool and why but try to stick to using a qualifying knife that has the classic toolset when possible

OFFICIAL 2024 JANUARY CLASSIC CHALLENGE
Reply #144 on: January 02, 2024, 02:50:02 PM
Day 2

I picked Tomo for today and used it for nail care. For this purpose I prefer the pointy file - much better vs. SD tip.

Overall I found the Tomo a bit confusing. On one hand the boxy shape is interesting and unusual and I like to carry it from time to time, on the other hand it seems to go against SAK's spirit- to be practical and use oriented.
The square shape does not add any function, makes the knife bigger and more akward to handle and does not have the toothpick and tweezers and at the same time do not have the aestheric quality of some luxurious scales materials (MoP, horn, sterling silver...), which do not add functional features either, but have the the aesthetic quality. Tomo is still plastic...

I bought the knife used, but still with the special paper box - only the string to keep it closed is missing.

The Classic came to the rescue and saved breakfast.  The seal on a new box of shelf stable milk broke and had to be cut out.  Classic had the right size blade to allow close cutting work without dropping debris into the milk.  Milk became available for wife’s morning tea.

There will not be much of it left!  I am also using the same classic for the whole month. Later on today I have to cut inspections holes in plaster boarding, as this will be my only cutting tool for the month I expect it to destroyed by the end

So plaster boarding and a SAK classic....I am hoping that a trip to hospital a&e (your ER ?) will be avoided?  :ahhh

Hmm, I always thought that the SAK in these pics is a Classic. It has the same dimensions but instead of scissors has that opener thingy. Presumed it to be Classic made for the company named in sclaes.

Now, if we say it is not allowed I’ll accept that but I do think it is indeed a Classic. If not, what is it then?
