My budget/travel EDC. $20 for FRN cara cara, $10 for vic driver. The $30 combo is, dare I say it, works almost if not just as well as $300 combo.  :o

I'm very impressed with quality of the cara cara. When byrd first came out I found their FRN models not well fitted, but this one is just as solid as my endura.

Nice combo. I've got the Meadowlark in FRN which is similar and it's an excellent little knife.

I've got the Cara Cara in stainless steel and think it's a great knife.  Much to big for legal EDC here but still a nice thing to have.

I remember seeing that at the meet (and your Delica  :gimme:) and I was pleasantly surprised actually.  :tu:

Looks great for travel - if everything is lost or stolen you're out only $30.

Kinda wish I'd have saved a couple of bucks and bought the FRN instead of the G10 Cara Cara.

The G10 version feels outrageously strong, but it is a little heavy for EDC.

Also fit and finish is a little rough on the G10 scales - not as nice as some of Byrd's FRN models.

I looked at the G10 version too, but after found out it's almost 2 oz heavier than FRN I decided against it. 5 oz is about my upper limit for pocket knives.

Just wish the FRN version didn't have the little cutouts and tacky ovals on the handle.

Haven't seen the FRN version in person - just pics.

But, I kinda like the look of the little cutouts in the grips.

The ovals I'm not sure about.  Do they have some kind of logo or design inside them?

One on left says "byrd", right says "cara cara". I think one in the center of handle is okay, two is getting tacky. I don't really care for the brand name either, they could've came up with better names than that.

Yeah, that does seem sort of tacky.

Oh well - aside from those tacky ovals it's a great knife in most other respects.

Especially when you consider its low price!

It is! For $20 there is nothing to complain about, heck the local army surplus shop wants more than that for those crappy imports that feels like it's going to fall apart in your hand!

Byrd knives are great, even if I do not carry mine for I have way too many higher quality knives. Considering the price I´d say that Byrds are maybe best bang for the buck.

My latest EDC gear.  I use the first aid pouch to carry "stuff"  in.  I am looking for something like the Urban wallet only about half the width.  When I go "packing" I use the Sog pouch as an extra magazine holder.

I think you should still talk to Bill; he makes /completely/ custom Urban Wallets, according to the buyer's wants.  He'll do you well and you can't help but be pleased with his work. :)

I've been  thinking of a custom Urban Wallet for some time now, removing the back zipper, rearranging the slot positions/sizes, adding a velcro/snap button flap cover for the knife/gear slots, etc. However, since Bill's in the US and I'm a little bit away, I thought I'd try it out myself first. So I went out and got some waterproof cordura-like fabric (for free :D -- nothing like the real thing but equally thick and heavy), a ykk zipper (for the side pocket) and a couple of snap buttons and sewed them together by hand. Actually it turned out so well that I plan to get some real Cordura or some ripstop fabric and try it all over again. I'd post pics if I were sure it wouldn't violate some copyright/patent (Bill's filed for one afaik). You could give it a try yourself too. However, if you want top-notch quality and craftmanship, I'd suggest talking directly to Bill as well.

For something half the width of the UW you could also try one of those cell phone pouches/holsters with extra pockets for coins/keys. They go for around €15 around here and could probably do the job.

I can't say anything bad about the Manix 2. It's been a great knife so far.

Wallet and cell phone not shown, since everybody carries those. Actually forgot the zippo too since it was together with wallet.
