Day 30
Military stuff and something I haven't carried...

Pt1:
Mauser Bayonet
Plum 1917 bolo
AK bayonet
Czech bread bag
US Otis IWCS kit w/ MP600 (gun cleaning kit)

Pt2: Carry something I haven't carried, that MP600 will be taking the place of my Rebar today.
I have other MPs and carried a 600 for years but this one has lived in the IWCS since I got it.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

DAY 29  I haven't done well with the mini challenges, and I think I'm botching this one as well.

As a kid, I looked forward to the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer special every year.  I finally found Yukon, who will say a few of his pithy quotes.  He's posing with a mint, uncarried Fisherman.

Love it.

Day 30.

I had to modify the challenge a bit to make this fit. So this is a never used multi-tool used for the first time: I present the "Hobby-Fix" which comes from unknown origins and likely showed up around here in the 1950-1970 or so. It was silly dirty and dusty so some parts were still wet from cleaning at the time the photos got taken. And is it took surprisingly much space I had to just place it at the edge of a table - just ignore the more modern stuff behind it.

The Hobby-Fix consists of various parts in seemingly steel, cast aluminium, aluminium sheet and oak wood parts. According to the manual it can be used for for clamping and holding like a vice, used to hold or press low and or wide parts for planing or gluing, hold parts so they can rotate, it can be used as a manual bench press drill, wood lathe (?!) and pressing of juice from fruits or vegetables (!). Personally I also think it might work to hold pieces perpendicular for welding tacks. It also comes with extra jaws to hold round parts, and aluminium jaw protectors for holding metal parts. Anyway, some pictures of the Hobby Fix (ignore the modern stuff - and I had to clamp it onto some aluminium plates as the table was too thick):

The can key on the Phillips reminds of weekends as a kid when mom would make Spam.
Though the can key probably isn't of much use anymore, Spam is one thing I came to appreciate as an adult. Chorizo is the same way (my Mom detested both).

A USMC KaBar and my Uncle Bill's New Testament that he was issued when he went in the corps.

This will also be my last challenge for awhile.
With awl you have on your plate, I can certainly understand that!

I guess it's an appropriate sized knife when you fight the war in an air conditioned computer room.

Day 30

Military item: my Shellback card. It definitely has its unfair share of battle scars. I regret keeping it in my wallet for any length of time.

Item I have but have never carried: a JPST. Unfortunately, some clod who didn't know what he was doing took a grinder to the blade. :twak:

I did use it to open a can of Spaghetti-Os.

Unfortunately, some clod who didn't know what he was doing took a grinder to the blade. :twak:

I had once hired a welder to weld a series of parts. I came into the workshop and saw him standing with a grinder and having a good go at our precision cast iron flat table. Apart from being silly expensive these tables are dead flat and used as measurement instruments to check parts for flatness. Well, he had checked the parts that he had welded for flatness. And they didn't lay flat on the flat table. Clearly the table must be wrong, and his parts correct, so he had decided to take a grinder and make the table right using his best eye measure... After that the precision table could no longer be trusted for flatness - one could see light under even known flat/ straight parts.

I hope the replacement cost of the table came out of his pocket. He needs a good :twak: himself!

No, not how it works here unless you do it on purpose. It went on the smurf happens account. I've done far worse myself so fair enough.

And he was a great welder - best we ever had around. We had to get him a new old style welder though without "displays, digital settings or touch buttons".  Two-three dials on a welder and he did amazing! Old school master for sure - great respect indeed for his welding skills! Too much initiative grinding things though!  :D

Day 30

The only military thing I have is a Spirt XBS with the cap crimper.  One of my favorite MTs.

The never carried is a Cybertool L that I just acquired to use for the large SAK challenge in August. Used the scissors for the first time today.

This has been a great challenge and thanks to Gary for hosting it and for the creativity with the mini challenges. It added some more fun to what I ordinarily enjoy doing with these challenges anyway.  :hatsoff:

Day 30

I went with the never carry option. Behold, the dumbest knife in my collection! A Rough Ryder "Backwoods Bushcrafter Folding Chopper."

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Or as I like to call it, "The Messmuck" since it's 2/3 of a Nessmuck combo in one stupid knife. The never carried is kind of self explanatory, as it's both huge and completely impractical. I actually have a bunch of wood to break down out back, so I promise to get an action show or two of it somewhere this week.

Thanks to everyone else who rode along, all our challenge makers, and Gary for organizing. This has been one of the more interesting challenges I've done, and it was cool to see everyone's gear, especially the kind of stuff we don't usually show off.

This has been a great challenge and a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed the mini-Challenges as well

Day 30
I don’t have a lot of military patches, but I do have a few.
The black with he sword is from WWII Allied Forces Europe.  The two blue are also WWII but from Bataan.  The round top one is an older Navy patch.

The bottom three round patches are patches that I got while serving.  One was from a International Navy Exercise called BALTOPS (Baltic Operations).  The other two are from space shuttle missions where I was part of the contingency task force.

But the collection that I really love are my coins.  Some are just from ships that I served on while others were gifts or marked specific events.

Two of the more special coins are one I received from the Chief of Naval Operations during an exercise and the other is  MGEN Livingston’ Medal of Honor coin that he gave me at the USS TRUXTUN commissioning.

For something I’ve never carried before, I carried a coin knife, with it I also carried a British Army knife that was a gift from a Royal Navy sailor and one of my Zippos, which I also have a small collection of.

I do believe the little 'axe' blade on the Bushcraft Chopper and their Marbles counterpart isn't meant for wood but rather tough plants like tobacco, rubarb, and greens.
Could be wrong, just what I was taught long ago.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
