@Rich_SD: black is my favorite way to drink coffee, too!

@in_sympathy: it's a shame the Signal didn't work out for you. But you touched on one of my bigger gripes with the Signal. I'll cover that on Day 30.

@m47mu74nt: looks like you found a cool mushroom there!

@Cypren: never heard of that beverage. Is it a beer or a soda?

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 22

No Signal use today, so here's a shot of it with my new wallet. (The paracord one wasn't very well-done and the paracord tried to shed, so a new one was in order.)

@Cypren: never heard of that beverage. Is it a beer or a soda?

It's a soda, typically only available at specialty retailers like Rocket Fizz. It tastes sort of like root beer but with a slight "kick" aftertaste like that of black pepper. Unique mix of flavors and something fun to try if you ever see it on offer.

Day 22

Blue helped in the kitchen by opening the crushed tomatoes, onions, and garlic packages, for tonight's dinner/tomorrow's lunch.

Day 23

I'm not using the tools on the Signal much, but I am still using the knife a lot.  I really like the blade more than I expected - it's very beefy and sharp.  I never choose combo blade knives over plain edge, but I always find myself liking combo edge when I use them (it's just the sharpening part that sucks).

@Cypren: sounds interesting!

@JonesE: :like: I intend to buy a black oxide ST300 soon. Hope the rain wasn't too bad!

@Juan el Boricua: what are you making...spaghetti? One of my co-workers recently mentioned a Puerto Rican stew that I'll have to ask you about.

@Rich_SD: you speak the truth about sharpening the combo edge blade!

@m47mu74nt: quite a selection there! I imagine the smaller ones suit the Signal's bit holder a little better.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 23.
This photo shows something I like, something I dislike, and something I rarely (if ever) hear mentioned. The thing I like is Leatherman's lat and long stamped on the scale. Could that be a multi Easter egg? Perhaps unsurprisingly, I'm not fond of the pocket clip. Barely visible just outboard of the hex thing is a little lock. It gets next to no mention, but it's kind of a nice feature.

Farmer, we have a couple of thick, hearty stews (I'm thinking about "carne guisada", "carne mechada", "sancocho", "pollo guisado"), and some really good "comfort food" ("pasteles de masa"!!!)! Sorry to say but no; it was chicken stew (ish; no taters or carrots).

About "the little mentioned thing"; although I appreciate the lock tab (and hoped for it to pass onto other models), I barely use it since I like my tools tight. I took out the saw side handle on all my Signals and pinched them until enough friction keeps it closed by itself but still easy to open and hence, never use the lock tab.

Day 23

Another opened package by Blue (and I better stop buying these things!), a saddening Spartan PS.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Hey Farmer X, Before you buy said B.O. ST300 reach out to me by PM on the forum. I have one one sitting around here collecting dust. It is in pretty good shape and I will throw in a spare sheath. Consider it an early Christmas present for running the challenge and herding  all of us cats to March in the same direction.

Opened some cheese for a snack then further cut  the packaging so Fisher could lick it

Day 23
No use but carried while at the park walking Fisher and doing some LifeTrail exercises

Day 23

Mostly used the Signal to open boxes today, but the edge was getting dull enough that I decided to try to use the diamond file to sharpen it. It works, albeit slowly and painfully. Not something I would ever use again with other options available, but good to know that it's there in a pinch.

@Juan el Boricua: sancocho was the one that was mentioned to me. And what are the plans for that Spartan?
@Sos24: glad the Internet made a return. And what is LifeTrail?

@Cypren: I bet that was an exercise in tedium! Though that itty-bitty diamond sharpener does seem like it would handle the serrated portion well.

@Rich_SD: nice glamour shot!

Y'awl continue to do a great job!

Day 24

I tested the blade on poly rope.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

In the photo below, the length on the left side was cut with the plain portion, and the length at right with the serrated portion. They performed about equally. That kinda surprised me.

@Sos24: glad the Internet made a return. And what is LifeTrail?
LifeTrail is when they set up different outdoor workout stations at various increments along a walk/running path or trail.  You walk or run between stations then stop long enough to do the different exercises, then run/walk to the next, etc.  I’ve seen other ones by other names but LifeTrail is the one our local park has.

Great pic Juan, My brother and I had flashlights like that. We would use them while we played G.I. Joe in the late 70s while my dad was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Thanks for bringing back the memory.

I have similar memory.  I loved how the bottom unscrewed and had different color lenses.

Thanks Rich, I was ambivalent about the color when I got it. It has since grown on me. I won’t be loosing it if I drop it while on a walk or hike.

Day 25

A little impulse buy on the last day of the Insider sale.  I really like the Free K series knives, but I rarely carry them over smaller options.  I'm going to try carrying this guy for a month... too bad we don't have a knife-based multitool challenge.  Oh, and "yes" the Signal opened the box it came in  :tu:

Day 25:
Swapping drives on a Dell R710: Leatherman bits and Signal were not the most fitting tools but it finally went through all 4 screws of the 6 caddies.

At least it reminded me why I always use dedicated tools when I need to perform a task 24 times successively
