I can't help but think the cutout area of the top scale would be ideal for snap in accessories.Depending on the day you could snap in a small mirror, lip balm, tray that holds toothpick & tweezers and pen, digital clock, button sized compass.I would love to accessorize mine.
I ordered the Synergy X in red, my first new or different SAK in a very long time. My life is purely urban these days and I usually carry a Sportsman but the Synergy looked so shiny.. I like the cuttouts and the red looks great though I get the feeling with it in hand that this type of sparkly anodising might wear quite fast?I like the absence of keyring nub which I always file off anyway. This lock specifically is not something I like, I have liner locks in other knives and they're fine but none of them with a spring, especially as strong a spring as this. Putting your finger in the way is not my idea of fun. When I release a liner lock on a regular knife the blade sometimes drops to my finger but it doesn't have any force to start cutting into me. It also makes this knife a (careful) two hand close, a regular SAK can be closed one handed against my leg. Not a deal breaker but I ordered it before I even realised it even had a lock. Whoops. The clip doesn't bother me in hand which I was worried about. Disappears.I like the package opener, works really well, I still think a pruner blade is the ultimate package opener though! My kingdom for a Rancher in that colour! In the end it went back in the box in the drawer and I ordered the 91mm Companion. Thing is that for urban use the package opener and nail file are great additions to a SAK but there's too much now missing for someone used to the simple Sportsman . With a regular Alox you can supplement with a classic but now you have too much overlap. Or how about a Companion 'Sportsman' with the package opener rather than the can opener? I have a feeling that would be a hit. It's almost there already.
I think the combo tool is begging to be paired with the nail file in a light/urban EDC set. Keep the Pioneer blade/awl layer and add scissors. That's a winner in my book.
