Mini Recta Compass Giveaway
on: February 17, 2009, 12:05:18 PM
Inspired by ALP's recent compass giveaway I went for a rummage.

I have here a brand new Recta Gem.  This tiny little piece of Swiss kit can be yours. All you need to do is tell me what you think the most humorous outcome of the Earth's next pole flip will be.   The answer found most side splitting by the masses (I'll run a poll in a few days) wins.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Everyone will have to buy a new GPS?

Great giveaway Neil!  Don't count me in, as I am well set for compasses, but I wanted to add my smart arse comments!

so what's on earth is an earth pole flip???

does north and south do a switcheroo???
does that mean the north pole will be closer to the australia...therefore will I get my christmas multi-tools quicker than those bloody poms? But wouldn't that make compasses useless?

ARGH....damn you NKB you made me think...and that is effort....i hate effort :P

Social therapists will find it a scientific possibility to prove to the fatalistic, depressive, pessimists that a negative can really be a positive

I think what Neil mean by pole flip is not the actual physical flip of our planet but of the electromagnetic field. They come around every few thousand years or so and from what I remember we are ether overdue for one by 7 thousand years, or that they come at 7 thousand year intervals and we're still overdue by a few hundred. No one really knows the consequences of a magnetic pole flip on our modern society since in the old days navigation was done with stars mostly. Compasses will definitely need to be swapped and re calibrated, but gps works with satellite and should not be affected, unless during the swap the protection that our magnetic field offers will temporarily be suspended, result of which will be bombardment of our planet by cosmic rays (the whole electromagnetic spectrum) and of coarse by solar wind from our sun. Think a cosmic EMP hitting earth, effecting every electronic device we have  :ahhh, but our MTs and SAKs should be safe  :D:cheers: V.

Hmmm... I didn't know there were flips living in the poles... Anyway, wouldn't the "outcome" of such a pole flip would actually be... ummm... another pole flip? :)
(awful pun... I know...)

Now, seriously...  ::) Will that mean Santa will have to move to Antarctica?  :D

I just want to say if somehow I should win,I would prefer that it be given to some youngster in Scouting whose parents may have more lint than coin in their pockets,Seems like there's always one like that in every Troop.Or if you have prosperous scouts in your neighborhood, then give it a squaddie about to deploy overseas, and tell him(her) use it to get back home safe and sound.
