Take a guess
on: March 19, 2025, 09:35:50 PM
I sorted through a tool box to find a chisel. I saw this. It was in a junk box of punches etc. at a flea market. Dollar for all. I haven't seen it in a while. Anybody care to take a whack at ehat it was originally used for?

It definitely looks like it was used for spreading putty and/or scraping. I wonder how much time and what conditions were needed to give it that much carbon spotting?

One edge is sharp, so it is used for cutting.  I never cleaned it up since the day I acquired it.  Today was the day.  I scrubbed off as much of the rust as I could and put an edge on the old relic.  It took a nice edge with what little time I put into it.  No maker marks left.  Best wishes.  G

There used to be a big carpet factory in the area.  I knew a lot of fellows who worked there. The workers carried a pouch with some peculiar scissors and these types of knives.  This particular one probably didn't come from there.  The issue knives at this place had green painted handles and were marked John Primble but were otherwise the same.  The blades always dished out in the middle.  Carpets are very abrasive.  I might have a pair of the scissors somewhere? Best wishes.  G
