I'm on Fedora right now, but I have been pondering trying Ubuntu again...

Needed to measure a door. Can you believe the Workchamp XL, with all that smurf, doesn't have a ruler?

It needs a fish scaler, it seems. You need a SAK with a fish scaler in it.

Which Linux do you like the most?

I was mostly on Debian and Debian derived for a while, but I've been digging Fedora lately. Strikes a good balance between bleeding edge, hyper customized, etc. like Arch and stuffy old cookie cutter like Debian, Mint, etc.

Day 27

The stacked Scissors/Pliers and Driver layers are one of the coolest things about the 111mm platform. You can even use the nub on the long Phillips to start opening the scissors, which can be kind of sticky. Some older 111s had a real death snap on the drivers, but that seems better on my more recent ones.

Day 28

Using the scissors to cut off a band aid so as to not break open the cut again.

Stabbed myself with an Exacto knife.

Should have been using my XLT I guess.

The under hook works well with a small knife, but I suspect you're better off just handling the pen on something the size of the XLT.

I had the same luck with my Wenger. But I suspect the notch was too small and/or poorly positioned.

Day 29

Taking apart a SOG to remove the pocket clip, plus oiling. My biological thumb nail gave out part way through (not thrilled w/ this design from a user serviceability perspective), so the locking driver on the WCXL stepped in. SOG is smoother now, and awkward clip out of the way.

Difficulty of user serviceability is duly noted, and glad no serious damage seems to have been done. Which SOG is that?

@BPRoberts Yes, even the XLT is better for writing. Can't recommend the XXL for it.

@FarmerX: The notch was very tight. The battery there should be changed by someone more capable.

Day 30!

Made it, and without needing a chiropractor or anything!

Here's the whole gang one last time.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Work Champ XL is silly, and that's awl there is to it. As established, it's comparable to a heavy duty Leatherman. Technically, it does have about a dozen more functions. Practically, if you want everything and the kitchen sink you'd be better off with a Swisschamp for more tools at a smaller weight. We awl laugh at things like the parcel hook, but it's probably more useful than a second awl or a combo tool on a knife that awlready has and opener layer.

On the other hand, I think the Tool Chest Plus and variants can give the Swisschamp a run for its money. The heft increase is fairly minor, and I do like the ergonomics of the original (the lumpy Evo 54 with that lock that catches on everything not so much.

For comparison both have:

1. Large blade
2. Scissors (different styles, Vic's a little better)
3. Pliers (Wenger's better!)
4. Wood and Metal Saws
5. Magnifying glass (Very different, Vic's mag is better, but that long thin driver is great)
6. Fish Scaler
7. Ruler (on different tools. Prefer the clear Wenger version)
8. Phillips driver (Wenger a bit stubby)
9. Cap lifter (Praise the Wenger pseudo-lock!)
10. Can opener (Different styles, Vic gives you the SD here instead of on the mag glass)
11. Corkscrew
12. Awl (Wenger has a cut out which is so convenient)
13. Tweezers and Toothpick (Vic's more accessible)

The TC+ adds:
1. Nail file
2. Wrench
3. Compass!

While the Swiss Champ gives you:
1. Secondary blade
2. Chisel
3. Mini driver
4. Parcel Hook
5. Pen
6. Pin

I think you can make the case that the extras on the Wenger are more practical (I have never used  that back side screwdriver on the SC for anything). The Swiss Champ is probably the better value for 99% of people, but I think I enjoy carrying the TC+ more.

Thanks to ulzhan and HarleyXJGuy, and FarmerX for cheering us on while he was lugging around a whole tool box (nearly as heavy as the WCXL).

I'll be painting it black next month, and then join FX for the Soldierthon after that. I don't know how I'll keep from floating way carrying one of those tiny knives. I'm thinking maybe a rigging knife challenge later this year.

It was a lot of fun doing the challenge with you, guys!

The Workchamp XL or the Swisschamp XXL are just hilarious. But even they're usable, sometimes very awkwardly.

Day 28

Tried to open a watch. It didn't work.

Some watches
Have back covers that may screw on, and can be tighter if a gasket ring is also mounted.

My wife dropped of a Seiko watch her dad wear. I tried to get it working but could not locate a battery.
She apparently inquired about the battery type and replacing at her ho to jewelry shop.

So she dropped it off, told a few days after the battery arrived.  A few weeks later somebody called and said the battery arrived.  We need to pick up the watch and pay for battery as it was a special order.

We drove out on Saturday, she is looking and go back to pay and retrieve the watch.

They hand me the watch, and then the battery.  I said thanks you can throw the old one away.  She looked at me like I was nuts.  No this the new battery, the jeweler could not remove the back.   He then popped out and said sorry must be fused together!

I looked at him, asked for a mat, put watch faced down, held it by the strap mounts. And applied my thumb on the back and turned it ccw a half a turn, and it came off!

I looked at him, his eyes bugging out, as I said, “I only fingered tighten for you. “

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

So with everything going on over the holidays and my chronic laziness I missed a few days during this challenge.

Will start a bonus week today so I can feel better about requesting the badge.

Very much enjoyed carrying the big SAKs all month, but at the same time am happy to have variety in my life again.

So apparently this is going to be one of those winters here in Michigan. The snow and cold has been non stop.

I'm kicking my face in the head that I missed this one. I actually have an XLT that I carried for a while (alongside a regular SC, haha). Yes, my pants were at a dangerously high risk of falling down on a daily basis — especially since I was also carrying a LM Arc in a belt pouch, too, but I didn't care. I loved carrying all of them.
