Help disassembling the ST300m
on: June 10, 2025, 02:24:51 AM
Hi.  I need to disassemble my ST300m for the first time and I want to make sure I'm doing it right.  I want to remove the pry bar.  I saw in a video that the pivot point consists of a pin that will not rotate and a screw that will rotate, but I'm not sure which side is which.  Can anyone tell me if the screw is on side with the serrated blade or the side with the awl?

Also, I noticed that the head on each side is slightly different - on the side with the awl, the head is flat, but on the side with the serrated blade, the head is very slightly rounded.  I noticed the same thing on the pivot point on the other side - on the side with the file, the head is flat, but on the side with the blade, the head is very slightly rounded.  Maybe this is a clue about which side is the pin and which side is the screw?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Basicly both side turns. You need to heat it with something that loctite gives up otherwise its gonna be hard to screw it open. I highly recommend buying parse wrenches from etsy or ebay.

Thanks.  I have parse wrenches - I just wasn't sure if I'd damage the pin if I tried turning it too hard instead of turning the screw side.  I thought the hole in the frame that the open end of the pin sits in has flat sides to keep the pin from turning, no?  Regarding the heating, I have a heat gun, but my leatherman has the black oxide finish and I don't want to damage the finish so I was going to try turning it without heat first.

Let's use the experience of colleagues. I didn't have the 300th, but I disassembled the supertool and supertool 200 without any problems

"I tried to show the disassembly process in detail in the photo - the main thing is not to twist the axis, which is located on the side of the handle without the logo. It is better not to touch it at all, just carefully knock it out with a suitable punch." (с)

From here. Sorry for the external link.

Thank you very much for finding and sharing that post.  I think this gives me what I was looking for.  In those photos, the sides labeled "2" and "4" are where the screws are.  And that matches what I had been thinking based on some videos I saw.  I appreciate the help.
