Good to see some posts on the ToolBox thread.  Internet was out here this morning.  Don't know why.  Solar flares?  Foreign governments messing with everybody?  Some drunk shot through the fiber-optic thingie last night?  Hard to tell.
So far I haven't been able to come in contact with a multi-tool.  It has been a couple of days.  I wanted to get out a SAK and felt like reaching for a Leatherman.  Every time I did, I started to feel strange.  I felt my forehead to see if I was running a temperature.  I put the icy cold little Buck trapper to my possibly fevered brow and closed my eyes a while.  The weird feeling went away.  I have the Buck in my pocket right now.
Do you think I might possibly have contracted a case of Multiphobia?  A morbid dread of non-single purpose tools?  Maybe I can work my way through this?  Later I think I will try to re-condition myself to the M-word tools.  Start slow.  Maybe pick up my yellow Opinel that has a couple of screwdriver bits in the handle.  Take out the bits and carry just the knife for a while.  See how that feels.
The local morons started fireworking right at dark last night.  Not much.  Then I got woken up about 10:30 or so by a persistent pecking sound.  I remembered that wood whacking birds don't do night work.  Somehow I figured out it was someone shooting off a 9mm or something one ridge over from my abode.  Didn't hear any big blow up at midnight.  Maybe everyone was out of ammo or passed out.  I think I heard one big boom, but I might have dreamed it.
How about a photo of the men clearing out a dead pine from my driveway.  Left a lot of debris, so I took a couple of shifts at raking and piling yesterday.  I made sure that I only used single purpose tools for that.  Couldn't take any chances.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Day 29:

Recently went through the UTV's toolbox and put my i5T that was living in it back in regular service (I downgraded the light in that kit down to one of my many cheap Sam's Club 3-pack lights).

Used it when I let the dog out.

And finally, Day 30.

Decided I'd upgrade my driving/racing setup. I really wanted the Moza R3 (a Best Buy two hours down the road carries them, but otherwise no local availability).  Currently, due to some right of way disputes, getting large packages delivered straight to my door is a bit of a headache (actually, impossible).

I previously had a Thrustmaster T128, and it was just plain terrible. Tiny pedals and in general just felt cheap as possible.

Walmart had a pretty nice discount on the Logitech G29/shifter bundle (it was $300 when I bought my T128, and $350 until recently). I got it for $250 here locally.

Before I picked it up, I thought I'd add some locking casters to my wheel stand to make moving it into position and sliding it to the side easier.

I have a bunch of these US-made "Stainless Steel" rulers. Most were Granddad's, and a couple I bought secondhand. I think they're made by Products Engineering.

Did some measuring for casters.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Some quick fraction to decimal conversions using the chart on the back.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I then went to Lowe's to get some M6 bolts (on Logitech's document on mounting the G29); and also found that virtually all their casters are 3/8 stem. Looks like Harbor Freight or Ace may be my best bet before resorting to Amazon. I've noticed that most places seem to list stem length or wheel diameter instead of stem diameter.

Got the G29 home and mounted it to my cheap wheel stand using a Kobalt 1/4 ratchet and 10mm socket.

Day 26:

I used a normal pair of pliers and some baling wire to temporarily attach this "mantle" to my fireplace so that family members could hang stockings on something.  (no picture of it with the stockings, unfortunately)

That’s disappointing.  Some folks seem to like them, but I’ve had some bad experience with Streamlight and can’t recommend them.

I absolutely Love the Steamlight Micro stream.  It's the 1 cell AAA light.  I carry it almost every day and I have a brand new one still in the package waiting for the day that I inevitably lose the one I carry.  But this new one is different.  I THINK (not sure) that it has to do with the adjustable battery thing inside.

Your driving siumlator rig has a clutch pedal! :like:

Part of the reason I went ahead with the upgrade is my old one (Thrustmaster T128) did not--and I have been using it a little bit more than "casually" as it's designed for. I've also been looking a lot at some fairly cheap '80s and '90s (and occasionally older) cars with manual transmissions as a beater/project.

The Moza R3 is much nicer but A: I'd have to order it and B: I'd have to buy an extra clutch pedal and shifter--which would've made it more than $100 more than the G29 was. Plus, Walmart had the G29 right on the shelf. The force feedback and feel of the pedals and wheel are so much nicer (steel pedals and paddle shifters--plus a leather wrap on the wheel and shifter).  Also, I really like the shifter.

Thinking about upgrading to a full-on rig with a seat (I've actually got a nice racing seat spare from a '48 CJ-3 I'm returning to stock after a crude crawler conversion by the previous owner); and mounting that on locking casters--as it's still awkward using a stand with a desk chair.

That's a worthwhile undertaking. Sadly, my present living arrangement makes a project car impractical. I'd be very interested to see some of those you may have considered looking at!

So I went to the page with all the badges to request it, but I don't see any that say "Tool Box Challenge" on it.  Is there a different place to request badges that I don't know about?     :dunno:

I have lots of stuff that I picked up here and there.  I was sorting through my screwdriver box before the challenge started and found several that I didn't remember.  I picked a small Snap-On screwdriver to be a pocket carry.  I carried it one day and saw I was going to have a hole in my pocket if I kept that up.
I carried a SAK for the first time since the challenge.  I reached in a drawer and pulled out a battered old Eco-line Spartan.  Both blades are bent from prying (someone else, not me) and put it in my pocket.  I might just switch to a Leatherman for tomorrow.  Best wishes.  Gary

Toyota dropped the Hilux name from American-market trucks back in the 1970s. I kinda wished they hadn't.

How does the Tacoma compare to the Hilux?
I wish we could get the Tundra here.
There's a Toyota plant South of Durban, back in '97 maybe,Toyota displayed 1 of the Megacruisers at an agricultural show,I wondered if some R&D took place here.

Day 28
I needed to reinstall my truck battery and decided to use a high-quality nut-rounding tool.
It worked surprisingly well. I'm still getting the hang of using the Knipex but it's definitely not as efficient at rounding off nuts as a Leatherman or Swisstool

The most used tools, apart from lighters, were the scissors and flashlight. SAK for token representation  :D
This brings me to the end of the challenge.the year was a doozy  ::)

At the start of the challenge,i mis-titled the second post,as a result,i have 2 Day 2's and no Day 4 [I diicovered that after I could edit it].
The challenge was enjoyable, and interesting, and proved that I can survive without Multitools, but what's the point of life then?  >:D
Thank you Gary, for being am excellent host  :salute:
