Those Rugers are awesome.

I have the Crosman pellet version of it in .177 and .22 and they are excellent guns.

One of these days I'll get one of the Rugers too, just to have the whole set!

On an unrelated note, I've been looking for a couple of guns lately, and last week I found them both at a local gun shop.  I was able to escape from there without buying either gun, but I couldn't keep 700 rounds of .22 followed me home. :D

I've been pocket carrying my Ruger LCR chambered in .327 Federal Magnum - loaded with spicy Hornady .32 H&R Magnum 80gr FTX Critical Defense.  It has ~.38 ballistics, with 1 more round than a J-frame and (IMO) slightly lighter recoil.  The OEM Hogue Tamer grip is spongy and really soaks up the snap.

Are you referring to the spring tension when reloading?
Yes. And you have the perfect solution! :tu:

I like the LCR as well. I got one when they were first introduced in .38 special for my wife. A very smooth and easy trigger considering it’s a double action revolver. And a simple manual of arms so she feels comfortable using it. I keep it loaded with 110 grain federal hydrashock.

I’d love to get one of the .22LR versions.

I would like to have one of those as well. That one hold 8 rounds, which is pretty groovy.  I own a S&W 43C J-frame .22 which also hold 8.  I pocket carry it fairly regularly with Federal Punch ammo because the gun/ammo combo is so insanely light.  .22 is not the greatest self-protection ammo, but I would not want to eat a face-full of them at close range.  If the online specs are to be believed, the LCR in .22 weighs 14.9 empty, and the 43C is 11.4 ounces.  The 43C has a pretty good trigger, but I bet that the LCR would be even better.

S&W 43C.

I gotta finish my 7.62 AR M5 this year. It's been 5 years in the making. After that it's time to assemble my Texas made LaRue 556.

Time and money never seem to sync.  :ahhh

The LCR is a great little revolver. Mine is a .357 Mag, but I usually carry it loaded with .38s.

Episode 1: New England Survivor Rifle in .223 Remington.

This is probably my favourite rifle in my small collection. It is a single shot break action rifle that I bought used at the local gun shop because I wanted an AR style rifle that shot .233 Remington ammunition, but could not justify the high price here in Canada for one, let alone not liking that the largish mags would have to be pinned to 5 rounds max. I just cannot abide a large mag just for show. Not sure why that bothers me, but it does. I ended up with this neat rifle instead. This stainless bull barrel rifle does come with some neat features. For instance, the butt stock is hollow and can hold a survival kit or extra ammunition. The fore-grip also comes off with hidden storage under the barrel. Unknown to me, I had bought the Survivor model which is a neat concept. The whole rifle comes apart in half for easy backpacking or storage if needed. The rifle is a break action single shot affair. When I got the rifle, it needed a bit of oil as the ejector was stuck. With a bit of cleaning the rifle will now toss an empty casing 20 feet backwards.

I have added a few extras such as a sling, a bipod, a 4x16 Barska scope, a butt stock ammo sock, and a hammer extension.

Here are a few links to more info:

http://www.chuckhawks.com/nef_rifles.htm

http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/ShotgunsAndRifles/survivor.asp

Pros:
- Simple action
- Strong ejector
- Breaks into 3 pieces for backpacking
- Survivor model has extra storage
- tack driver, and bull barrel makes this a great range gun
- .233 Remington ammunition is somewhat cheap and plentiful
- Low recoil

Cons:
- single shot only
- shoulder stock is not cushioned (not that it is needed with the light recoil .233 Remington ammunition)
- with scope installed, hammer is hard to reach, requiring a side extension
- Will not use Nato 5.56mm ammunition

Overall:
This makes a perfect varmint rifle, or range gun. When I first bought it, it had a 3x9 Scopechief scope and I couldn't see my hits. With the more powerful scope, I can eliminate my range telescope as part of my range setup. The simple action is fantastic for first time rifle users, as it is easy to work. Under a hunting situation, the single shot will force you to make every shot count; which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you want to look at it.  I have found this rifle to be easy and quick to reload. I just like the weight, feel and function of this rifle.
I bought one of these, used, at a gun show back in the '90s. I had a NEF rifle in .357 Magnum with the standard wood stock, and thought .357 was better than .223 for a survival rifle. So I swapped the Survivor stock and forearm to the .357 and the wood stock to the .223. Later I traded the .223 for another NEF in .45-70.
I still have both.

I still shoot competition air rifle, but I have to admit the bug for traveling the length and breadth of Scotland at the crack of dawn has...diminished.   ;)  Still attend my local club though.

Just a PSA: anyone with a Sig Sauer P320 should do a little research into the string of uncommanded discharges that have been reported. The pistol is being prohibited by a lot of agencies and, recently, the United States Air Force has shelved it pending further investigation.

Dang, that's not good at all.

I hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

I'm pretty sure in a SHTF situation, Grant will be knocking on my door.  I may or may not have, what media would call an arsenal.

Been shooting airguns and guns since I was a kid. I'm a competition pistol shooter. Though without saying much, had to slow down.

Am looking at getting a quality PCP airgun. Maybe a FX or an AF condor/talon.

I'm well on the way to having my own pretty good stockpile.  I'm feeling like that Shockwave I recently got is going to be my go-to for any unpleasantness that may arise.

That is until I get a nice bullpup.   :D

I am really liking it, at least the form factor.  That may change if and when I ever get around to putting a few rounds through it.

So far I haven't managed to use it for anything.

The Shockwave would not be my first choice.

For one thing, while I don’t own one, I understand they require some practice to shoot accurately, being different from both handguns and standard long guns.

For another, since they can’t be reasonably operated with one hand, one can’t run the Shockwave and a flashlight independently.

And, if you’re in a situation where neither the extra length (Shockwave overall length is still more than 26”) nor the inability to independently run a light are a disadvantage, most folks are going to have an easier time shooting accurately with a more traditional stock.

Still my favorite to this day.

I couldn't find a 357 H&R, that people didnt want 1000$ for, so I picked a Rossi LWC in 357 mag. It was cheaper than buying a new barrel for my TC Contender.

I do like an FX but haven't tried a AF Condor.  If you can find one to try out do look at the Weihrauch WH100.  Borrowed my friend's one and, genuinely, put a whole magazine through a single hole at 35 yards. That was from a bench I hasten to add, and he'd done all the work-up with pellet testing, but it wasn't a challenge.

I've never fired a Shockwave, but accounts I've read support what Nate wrote above me. Some folks said that a Blackhawk Knoxx BreachersGrip makes the Shockwave much nicer to shoot. That particular grip is discontinued, but it may be worth searching for one.

Sadly I'm not a huge fan of thumb hole wooden stocks. AF just has that inline valve system that is efficant.

Cost and supply of ammo here,  thought to switch back to airguns. As Im safely able to shoot them out to 80m in my back yard.

Still have to scope my QB 88, likely going to set it up as a off hand trainer, My daisy 953 Im considering putting my extra Anschutz peep sight and make it trainer for my Anschutz 1403.

Then my pest control airgun is just a Crosman 362. As I can pump to the velocity I need.

I also could collect the lead and recast them back into pellets.
