The price of things these days!

I went over to eBay which is something I haven't done in years. I was completely taken aback at what people are asking for some items. I made the mistake to see if anyone had a Spyderco Spyderench and saw a listing for nearly $1000 US!. I stopped looking after that. I can't imagine many people having these pieces in their collection these days, especially at those prices. I have also included my two Al Mar examples as they were never cheap and I hesitate to search their going rate.

There is still huge possibility for people to have bougt their tools to use them. A lot of them have broke ages ago and those who still use them have no clue or interest in their value outside pockets
I was lucky to get my Spyderench for about 200 dollars last year. My endgame was always Wenger Mini Grip and I got some nice plier based tools while hunting for the Wenger. Even Spyderco was just a bronze spoon which I kinda like but I know I dont ever sell anything anyway so Ill just devalue everything by using them

You definitely still get deals here and there, but not like you used to. This is largely due to shows like Forged in Fire that constantly introduce folks to the world of knives and sites like this one that normalize the interest. Then you have social media that have turned enthusiasts of certain brands into raging, rabid fanboys that are willing to pay literally anything for a discontinued model, and then there are the sellers that take advantage of that.
It's a vicious cycle that we are unfortunately a part of- many years ago on Knifeforums we did the same thing with SAKs. Until we came along, most SAK models were virtually worthless and now discontinued models go for a premium, premium models go for a fortune, custom models are making people wealthy and limited run models are all the rage.

Now we know who to blame, Chako.
I'm just happy that I'm cheap. I still visit the eBay and I still have Victorinox executives on my search list from my first Chuck Yeager challenge and can't believe what they go for now.

I think that the word that you're looking for is "Enabler".

Definitely seems crazy what some things are going for.
I try to look at what stuff actually sells for, not what it gets listed at. The latter could simply be overly optimistic sellers.
From a seller’s perspective, they don’t have much (if anything) to lose by listing an item for a ridiculous price upfront, and hoping someone bites. If not, they can always re-list the item later at a lower price, invite offers, etc.

Chako is kind of like Goldfinger - makes a large portion of existing multi-tools unavailable to the rest of the world thus driving up prices. Just, he's no contaminating them, he has them in his own little Fort Knox
