Why is the Wave 2 so expensive?
on: December 19, 2009, 03:53:12 AM
As far as I can tell, the Wake is basically a small-form Surge, yet I got my Surge for $40 at the same Wal-Mart where the Wave has been $72 since (I believe) April.

What about the Wave makes it so pricey?

You must have got a close out price on the surge, mine have always been about 10 bucks higher than the waves. :multi:

I admit it, that I did. Perhaps my largest gripe is they haven't put the Wave on closeout yet. :)

I surmise that there is less demand for the Surge because it's too large for the casual multi-tool carrier.  The Wave sports a much more appealing form factor.

I think the reason for the Surge close-outs was a lack of demand,  if they were selling in sufficient number those retailers that discontinued them would still be carrying them.

I only paid $45 for my Wave :) of course that was a lucky Ebay auction last year ;) Generally the Wave is bought by more ppl I think so there is more demand and thus no price drop :-\ If you ever hear of a price drop somewhere be sure to let us all know :D

I personally find the Wave Charge form factor to best for me, the Surge doesn't offer (me) anything in terms of usability in exchange for the extra weight and bulk.

The Surge pliers are heavier duty, and I can see why some would choose to carry it, especially those who will use it on heavier duty tasks.  It's just not for me, I have 2 surges, but I EDC the Charge TTi.

which is kind of funny because that is one of the cheapest full size multi's up here.  I can pick one
up for about $52 plus shipping.
