Just ordered a toolkit for taking locks apart
(Image removed from quote.)
Interesting kit.  Is it for work or more hobby?

I have started lock picking and I want to use
the tool kit for making my own practice locks  :tu:

Good luck.

I’ve been interested in lock picking for a while, but where live possessing the tools is considered proof of intent to commit burglary if not a dealer or locksmith.

Thanks Reinier.  :hatsoff: First one I have found. I’m going to try and not get obsessed about finding the rest.  :D

Let me guess: Too late already?  :D

Probably...good or bad, depending on your view, is that I live in a region with a very small pool of collectors/used SAKs. So finding the less-common SAKs is very difficult. At least that’s my excuse for not dropping down the rabbit hole head first. Maybe just a toe.

I use the lock picking tools just as a hobby
and only use locks that are not in use
I wouldn’t carry the picks outside  :tu:

Gerber Center-Drive in BO with the ST bit kit.

And something I've wanted to find for ages--the Gerber Combat Engineer kit pouch. Designed to carry a flashlight, concertina cutters (which working on a farm, is something I need badly; but haven't gotten yet--for used items, they are pricey!),  MP-platform tool, and mine probes (though pocket is same size as the MP600 pouch, so I'll likely use it for a folder). My plans are to pretty much outfit it as issued, except for the mine probes (but they might come in handy for metal detecting). This will be attached to the outside of my 3-Day Assault pack to have what I need quickly and easily accessible.

Got my steady today. It’s weird. It does hold my Pentax Q7. There is a tension screw under the ball so i was able to tighten the ball up to hold a slightly heavier camera. Since everything is plastic it will never tighten enough to hold a heavier camera like an SLR. The camera can easily be aimed up or down. As a mini tripod, it does a passable job. It’s way more stable than those little pods with the bendy legs.

Size wise, it’s very close to the gerber octane in all dimensions except thickness. It’s Closer to MP600 thickness. The blade is even the same shape and length as the octane. The phillips driver is pretty short, but all the other tools have good reach. The Phillips is also a nail breaker. All tools snap open and closed with very strong backsprings. Because of the backsprings the blade is a little more awkward to open one handed, but it’s still easily doable. It has a half stop too, so it won’t snap closed on fingers.

The pliers themselves are thin. Thinner than the octane, and thinner even than the CRKT Bivy pliers. They do feel pretty solid, and they have flush cutting anvil cutters, which is actually pretty nice. They’re very effective too. There is minimal flex when trying to push the plier tips apart. Even though they’re thin, they seem pretty adequate.

What isn’t adequate is the handle flex. While the plier head says medium duty, the fact the handles flex so ridiculously much means this is a light duty tool at best. I’m actually afraid if I bear down hard on this tool it will break. I’m more likely to break than my mp600, and even the octane feels impossible to destroy by squeezing (except perhaps in a vise). The steady however... if I didn’t pay fiddy bucks for it I’d try breaking it just to see if I can. I’ll bet I can.

So I’m a bit disappointed by that. The camera functionality is actually exactly as described, plus the benefit of adjustable tension.

There is plenty of room for adding a pocket clip... but nothing to screw into except plastic. The scales are not covering metal. The only metal is inside on the backbone of the knife. And even that is composed of several interlocked sections. Hence the flex.

Overall I give it a 6. The camera features are really cool but it fails as a pair of pliers. Everything else can be forgiven. I really like the plier head design, but the flex is so unnerving it’s difficult to get over. I really want to give it a 5, but the camera part and the tools bring it up a point.

Charles.

Some pics.

It holds my Pentax Q7 mirrorless camera with the big telephoto zoom lens just fine. This is a pretty small camera, but more like a P&S with replaceable lenses.

The last two pics try to show how much the handles flex before I feel like I’m going to break it.

Charles.

Just ordered a Griffin Pocket Tool (Brass) for £19.99 from the "Bay of Fleas"

It says used but looks to be in quite good condition  :dunno:

I did have a look on-line, and I would have preferred a new one, but for that price it seemed a steal (so I stole it) The only places it was cheaper (new) seemed to be the US and shipping was just silly money

It should be here in a 7 - 10 days. I'll post a pic' or two when delivered  :salute:

Just pulled the trigger on the Griffin Pocket tool starter pack straight from the source... It was on sale... shipping was a little over USD 16... estimated to arrive sometime end of June...

Early last month, I ordered a Standard Silver Pioneer Rancher from a reputable seller on ebay. Also ordered another Keybar with milled clip... turns out the owner has one left in his possession...

With the pandemic, delays are expected and both are expected to arrive sometime end of May... fingers crossed...

I blame all of this spending as a result of staying at home

SurgeUK, a brand new one costs USD35 on Griffins website...

Good luck with yours jaya_man  :tu:

I had a look on the US website and the one I've got on the way is out of stock  ::)

However, out of curiosity, I looked at the purchase price of $35 USD (£36.27 GBP) and the cheapest shipping $16.35 USD (£13.18 GBP) and then went to the checkout. Even with the cheapest option of 1st Class Intl Shipping the cost is $51.35 USD (£41.39 GBP)

I'm afraid that when the cost of shipping is nearly 50% of the cost of the item then it's a no from me (the other two shipping options were eye watering at; $54.04 & $66.32 (£43.56 - £53.46 GBP)  :ahhh

Then I still have to wait several weeks for delivery and it's out of stock anyway

Used condition it is then... :dunno:

Nice ones!

I keep waiting for Cabela's to bring the price down on their orange G-10 Charge. While aluminum or titanium really doesn't get my interest, G-10 does. Tough, and not freezing when you whip it out in ridiculously cold weather working on a farm.

My second Stanley plier multi tool with embedded clock.

Was that the really cheap one on evilbuy ?

They are a really odd thing, and they didn't even bother putting any extra tools in the empty handle.

I'm firmly of the opinion that the designers who came up with the ideas for the Stanley "toolbox" series of promotional tools had applied some kind of strong artificial enhancements (drugs) to their minds before they started their design sessions.  I mean, a clock on some pliers, a tape measure on a watch, a watch with a built-in C-clamp, but for me the most outlandish is the clock/screwdriver styled like a WW2  floating mine  !!!

Having said that, they appeal to my (warped) mind, so I have quite a collection of them.
