Not going to have anything like 2200 lumens with my latest, which is a Gerber Temo with its magnificient, searing seven lumens beam.  I was plannning to ease off on buying flashlights until around Christmas and then get myself a Preon 1 but the Gerber came in a under a tenner shipped and to steal Oscar Wilde's line, I can resist everything but temptation.

I've always liked the feel of Gerber's lights Kitbeard, I'm definitely interested to hear what you think of the Tempo. :tu:

Is that a AAA or AA light?  I hadn't heard of them doing a LED version of the AAA minimag yet, though it's about time they did. :)

They are doing the whole line of their lights with LEDs. They are even making a Solitaire LED.

Thanks for the info, I haven't heard about this  :tu:

I'm glad they are updating the solitaire and the Mag-Tac looks interesting (from a "mag is finally catching up" standpoint).  TBH, though, I'm kind of disappointed in the specs of the solitaire.  1hr 45m runtime at 37 lumens isn't that great (my fenix LD01 has ~3hrs at 30lumens).  I guess my interest would depend on the price.

I think I read somewhere the solitaire would be about $17. I agree on the output vrs runtime but it's advantage is the focusable beam. They aren't gonna win a lot of flashoholics back as customers, but they/we aren't their target audience. :)

They are doing a LED Solitare??!!!  :ahhh  At long flippin' last I say. :D  And Maglite using C123's as well, looks like they are really trying to enter the 21st Century.

Cheers for the link enki.

Good points.  I hadn't thought about the focus-able beam, although probably more useful on a bigger light, its still cool.

For $17, however, I think it will be a hit.  That makes it cheaper, and somewhat comparable in specs, to a Fenix E05.

I just got a number of flashlights in a trade. An Energizer Triple Beam Handheld, a Rayovac tail clicky (couldn't find a model name), a Winchester headlight, and (not primarily a flashlight, but still with a built-in LED light) a Countycomm GP-4L AM/FM/Shortwave radio.

These aren't real high speed lights, but all run on AAs and will be backups in my kits.

The Energizer has a high mode that claims to be 90 lumens, along with a green LED and a red LED, both much dimmer working lights. The beam is focused to a very small point, so very little flood. The Case seems very sturdy, although the tail cap only takes a quarter turn to remove. I fear a drop might pop it off.

The Rayovac is a nice little light. I'm guessing about 10 lumens. Just a good small light, solid metal case (I guess aluminum) with o rings. The tail click button is covered with a rubber boot, so it's probably going to have reasonable water resistance, but I don't intend to dunk it.

The Winchester headlight is... ummm..... it puts out light. In all honesty, the three lights were ballast to bring a trade into balance. They were sort of icing on a cake. The real item I was interested in was the Countycomm radio.

And that radio has an LED light on it. I couldn't tell you the lumens, because it's not even half as bright as my next most dim light, which is 1.8 lumens. So... maybe about .5 to .75 lumens? However, while it is incredibly dim, it is supposed to have a 70-hour runtime. I've tested it, and it is enough for task work, and bright enough to see to your feet while standing. Strangely, I'm very happy with it.

Right now I have a Fenix PD20 that I carry on my person and I have two Fenix TK35's, one for each of my Jeeps. Eventually I'd like to upgrade but just haven't got around to it.

I finally got myself a light to replace my trusty old AA Maglite.  Just like the light that replaced my Solitaire on my keys about a year ago, it's a Fenix, an L2S.  Nice light, dual mode, click switch on the rear.  I haven't found much info on this light here or on the web.  Anyone else have one?  Here with my E01 for scale....

I'm certainly not a flashaholic, two new lights in a year is quite a lot for me.  ;)  That being said, the E01 sees use every single day at work, and the L2S is going to be a permanent part of my EDC bag carry.  :tu:

I never had an L2S, but I did have its replacement, the L2T V2. These were the simpler and cheaper lights in Fenix's range, offering 2 modes by loosening or tightening the head.

The more expensive L2D had an identical body, but offered multiple brightness modes, strobe and sos.

More info on the L2S can be found here:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/fenix_l1s-l2s.htm

Lights, like multitools are addictive. Despite having more lights than I need, I am always on the lookout for newer and brighter lights.

Torches are just another addiction... now you're in it, and can't get out.

The L2S is an older Fenix model; I believe it was in regular production about 3 or so years ago.  I think it has a Cree XRE emitter in it.  It should have a pretty throwy beam, and be a cool tint, meaning the light it makes is going to be kind of bluish.  Max output is probably around 100 lumens.

The EagleTac D25C uses CR123 batteries, not AA's, just so you know.  I'm not much of a 123 fan myself; I prefer the AA form factor and 18650 lithium-ion rechargeables.  Unless you've already got equipment that uses the 123 format, you're going to find yourself paying through the nose for those 123's...  You can find them at decent prices if you buy in lots of 50 or 100, but I've never wanted to have to do that.  You can also get li-ion 16340's, which are the same as the 123 form factor.

I'd suggest you look at neutral tinted lights, Tom, as they are far more pleasant to use than cool tints, IMHO.

Regardless, the D25C is going to blow the L2S away.

I bought a new 2AAA Mini Maglite LED penlight.  It is rated for 84 lumens and has the same adjustable focus feature that Maglite made famous (complete with donut hole when adjusted for flood).

I am a 2AAA penlight fan, not necessarily a Maglite fan.  This penlight seems decent so far.  Wish it had 2 brightness levels.  The cost was under $18 US at an REI (aka Real Expensive Inside) store.

The beam has some artifacts, but the tint is not too yellow nor too blue.  When adjusted for tightest beam, the 2AAA Mini Maglite LED throws light farther than the C4 version Streamlight Stylus Pro.

Okay, I've already mentioned this in other threads, but I have a new Nailbender P60 drop-in with an HCRI XP-G2 in it, with a low voltage driver for my Solarforce L2R, that will run off of 2xAA.

350 out-the-front lumens of rosy goodness!!! :D
