You can find most of the how to's in the thread at the top of this board, convivially named SAK modding guides, all in one place. ;)

Thanks enki_ck. We meet everywhere.. :-)

Right, I realise I am off topic!

Lol SAK massacre..
I will follow the link and the guidance to try my best.

Sorry for the misplaced post.

And the compact tinker still holding strong as most popular 2 layer 91mm now.  :D

I dont think I purposely tried to show this before but the tumbled surface I do is actually highly reflective.  See second last pic.  So its a matte dull gray looking straight on, but at an angle very shiny.

So an awl on the back of the scissors layer is possible?

I presume it needs spacers?

Yep, a washer and a tweak to the shape of the backspring.

How did you do the backspring tweak?

I'm looking to build a Trail Guide but with awl behind the scissors and the fine driver on the back of the file. Only thing I haven't been able to figure out is the tension on the scissors when the awl replaces the hook.

The backspring needs to be bent about 5 degrees to give the scissors some snap close.  Its a trial and error process to have the right snap.  Bend it too far and the scissors have strong snap, but the awl will be a super nail breaker.  Dont bend it enough and the awl will open super easy but the scissors will snap closed like a limp noodle.

Thinking about it more, do you have any pics you could mark up to show where to bend and what to brace?

I finished all my brass machining, so Im working on getting flood going today so I can get onto machining the blade steels and Ti...  someday I'll have this all setup I hope.  :D

Enjoy me sounding like an excited little girl when I mix the coolant, and see if you notice the very dirty phrase near the end.

Missed the dirty phrase the first time, second time I thought 'Well "darn it" is not too dirty' - Then I heard it  :)

Good luck with the seal - Bit frustrating -  >:( - Does it need somme sort of gasket?

Congrats on another problem solved!  When you start modding the equipment you use to mod, however, it starts getting a little existential...

Ya for sure lol.  I know this is still a new model for Tormach and there was bound to be some kinks in the setup, but I didnt expect to have to mod the enclosure so much.  Oh well as long as I can cut Ti I will be happy.

Combo tool is too thin to even be strong.  But I bet it's possible to grind the bottom of a bottle opener to be able to open cans.

When you start modding the equipment you use to mod, however, it starts getting a little existential...

Dittto
That's funny

Gotta say I have been a bit shocked by the mods you have had to make. Some of them due to pretty poor design/finishing.
Have you sent your videos to Tormach.

No idea what this thing cost (dread to think  :o ) - But I reckon they owe you of few hundred dollars -
1. For your time - finishing their design errors
But mainly 2.  For your suggestions as to how they can improve their machine - As everything you have done needs to be incorporated in the product.

Although one quick question - The lack of waterproofness was pretty poor - But why the obsession (  ;) ) with making it so watertight - Is the coolant a 'nasty' chemical that should not touch anything??
I did notice you were wearing latex gloves when you worked with it

PS. As always, your attention to detail and quality is amazing - The paper test was outrageous  :o
Although you missed the piece on the floor under the sump !!  :twak:

Yup Tormach follows my videos and have commented to me directly so they are very aware of the design problems with the enclosure.  My guess is it wasnt initially designed for flood.  The 1100 enclosure was, and it doesnt leak from what I have heard.  The machine/electronics/computer control have all been flawless and that is what is important to me so I really dont care too much as I expected to have to fiddle around a bit.

The support Tormach provides customers is absolutely top notch and for someone new to CNC that was THE major reason I bought from them.  When I called for tech support during setup the guy that answered the phone, not transferred to, the one that answered, solved my limit switch issue in about a minute.  He had personally setup this exact machine on his own so he knew all the in and outs.

I want the enclosure completely waterproof to avoid a mess in the laundry room.  During rapid movements and aggressive cuts coolant goes all over the place.  Its not toxic at all actually.  I looked up the MSDS and its mostly petroleum distillate (oils) and a few additives.  Its 7% of that concentrate in water so its mostly water with suspended oils.  The worst thing in the MSDS about it was it could cause skin irritation on extended exposure.

A fellow 440 user sent me this pic of his non sealed enclosure... I dont want this mess!

Combo tool is too thin to even be strong.  But I bet it's possible to grind the bottom of a bottle opener to be able to open cans.

I did that. The inside arc of the Opener needs to be increased somewhat, and a better point ground to grip the edge of the tin can........but it works fine.

Thats awesome!  I figured it would work but never got around to it.  On 93mm SAKs like electricians people are always wanting a can opener on them and tweaking the bottle opener into a kind of can opener combo tool seemed like a good option.
