Hi all.

The past several weeks, I've discovered a way of making wrist lanyards that is both simple, and yet highly effective.  Best of all, it gives a simple way of getting the lanyard out of the way if when using driver functions, such as on a SAK.

Here's a few pics showing how it works.  Hope it's enough explanation, but if anyone has any questions, just let me know.

Here's the basic lanyard itself:

Here's how to put it on your wrist.

Note that by moving the last bead to the end of the lanyard, it makes a loop to put your hand through.  When not in use, the bead gets slid back up to the top of the cord, reducing the chances the lanyard will catch on things you may brush by when walking.  When needing to use a driver, just unclip it from the split ring so the lanyard won't get in the way, or flop around.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I just bought a strap for my sunglasses that operates very similarly.  Pretty cool idea!

Very interesting.  I recently improvised a great solution myself. The best I used up to now was an eyeglasses lanyard but as soon as I got my heavy XLT I had the idea of using a neck strap. This one is a highest quality from the 2004 Olympic games (collectible too). It is strong and elastic. It has a button operated fastener. Usually it stays on the ring, folded. When unfolded...
1) I can tie it simply from my belt loop with the knife in my pocket or hanging freely
2) I can fasten it on my hand for security (avoiding accidental dropping)
3) I can hang it from my neck
4) I can hang it on a tree or somewhere convenient
It is very comfortable, beautiful and it doesn't act like a headphone wire.
Highly recommended!

I done something similar on an Opinel Slimline I customised for a friend, using some leather thong and some glow in the dark pony beads
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

That's the beauty of this, it only requires a snap or clip, a few pony beads, and about 24" of paracord.  Simple, cheap, and so far it works surprisingly well.  I've done a few variants where I put a cord lock in between two pony beads, but for most of my uses, beads alone works just fine.

Great idea Heinz!¡! I've been using lanyards for years on all my MTs. I have never thought of the bead trick but it makes total sense to me. I will start doing that as I have tried it when I first read this thread earlier. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Nice work, I like the use of the beads, looks good.

A slightly bigger version, but the same idea of a folder of mine -

Useful if you work above water etc. Not so good if you work near moving parts, take care.
