Used the awl to put a tiny pilot hole in a banjo fret board where the high tension high top string sawed through the plastic nut (student model). A tiny tiny tack, tap it in. Fixed.

Beer and SAKs make for great photos. I liked the SwissBucks as a kid, and sadly never got one.
No better time to fix that than now. Watch on eBay, sometimes some slip under the radar and go cheap. Hell even new in box ones like this example can be had for a fair price. I grabbed this one NIB for $40 shipped back in November.

Quite a busy day for my Director.

Used the scissors to cut packets of ranch dressing and malt vinegar at lunch.

I needed to cut a zip tie taking down Christmas lights (folks wanted to do it today, as the weather would be abysmal for the next couple of weeks), and had nothing better at the time, so I used the main blade. I didn't note any damage, but was really nervous to use the small and thin 74mm blade, but it completed its task unscathed. I later switched to a cheap fixed blade for that.

Peeled an orange with the orange peeler.

Needed a place to hang my clipboard, so I put a screw in the wall with the orange peeler's SD tip.

The Director may be heftier than an Executive, but I prefer the feel. I happened to get an unused drawer queen from the early '70s for a whopping $10. I've mostly carried it around the house, or for formal occasions. It is not really a shelf queen in my use, but isn't used like a regular EDC either.   The 74mm frame is just where a proper-size pocketknife starts with me, and is neither too small nor too big. I can leave it in my pocket all day lounging around the house in sweatpants and not notice it.

Thus far, I've not had good luck with that thing. It should be noted that my sharpening skills are iffy at best. I have a Tri-Hone setup as well.

thanks, same here,  don't want to mess up any blades.  Maybe something from  a specialty company not a knife company?

I do use the pocket victorinox sharpening rod/pull thingie, and I quite like it ! Even for non victorinox knives, I start with the rod, then give a few passes on the pull part, and it's shaving paper like it's out of the factory. :ahhh

For the free hand section apply a little sharpie to the bevel, that'll help you get the angle right.

If you don't like sharpening then really the best thing for it is to keep on top of your blades, a couple swipes at the end of the day on the inside of a leather belt (or actual strop if you like) and every now and then put then through the ceramic pull through on the Vic sharpener.

I'll have to give mine another go, too. My bad luck was likely due to user error.

I'll give a +1 for the Vic pull-through sharpener. I'll add that I'm a complete novice at sharpening, but the pull-through has put some good edges that slice paper back on some used knives that I've picked up.

I've never had to mess with the ceramic rod part. Been lucky that I haven't had a blade that messed up.

I don't put much pressure on the sharpener when I pull the blade through so it's taken 20-40 passes to get a good edge sometimes.

I'll admit that the main reason I got it is that's it's angled for the factory grind on the blades, so very simple to use.

I use a Work Sharp GFS on all my knifes, really satisfied with it. ::)

I should probably add that the Vic was a lightweight solution for touch ups, if someone is looking for a more intensive system then something else will probably be needed.

I've gone from a Lansky Turnbox to a Spyderco Sharpmaker to my current set up: A Wicked Edge Pro with Vic sharpener for the light stuff.

I use a lot of SAK tools for SAK mods. Yesterday the list is pretty long for just the modding:

Pliers - pull and cut wires.
Tweezers - grab small quantity of glow powder, move wires
Fish scaler - also push wires
Metal Saw (stainless) - cut cellidor and file misc parts that needed clearance
Awl - make or clean or pilot holes in things. Brass, aluminum, plastic.
Watch case opener - the less likely to scratch pry bar.
Toothpick - glow material and epoxy mixer, applicator, spatula

I wish I could say the same. My white Rally was incapable of cutting paracord when I received it. Much work on the ol' pull-through sharpener (on both the carbide and ceramic) was necessary with that one...

Used the straight pin in my Compact to clear a clog in the nozzle of a plant food bottle. It was a heroic effort.

I've used those pins several times to clear out nozzles on sprinkler heads. Didn't really see a need for it until that first time. Now I'm a convert!

Good to hear that you fixed it.

I did have a pair of scissors on an Explorer that were badly messed up. Used a diamond file and Felix Immler's video to re-edge them.

Well, not really me and not my SAK but my youngest got  a garage this Christmas and every gate has its own key. She did it her own way with her toy SAK. She wasn't strong enough to do it but I tried and the SAK worked for them all. The pic has bad lighting and are blurry but we all know hos toddlers change focus so I has to be quick
