You know your sad when upon reading that you think "why had that never occurred to me before?".  Snow speeders really shouldn't need to be adapted to the cold.

Not to derail this thread () but I'm going to hell for derailment anyway so it doesn't really matter any more, but I have been obsessed by this Russian Ekranoplan Ground Effect Vehicle since reading about it in a William Gibson book. It sounds like a precursor to repulsorlift technology and as usual the Russians have gone large with it:

There's a bunch of stuff on Youtube as well.

Ekranoplans are extremely cool.  8)  Not actually practical in that they didn't like poor sea conditions, but definitely cool.

Frankly I think there is some serious potential behind ekranoplans- yeah, they don't like rough seas, but the weather reports these days are amazingly accurate to days in advance.  Considering an ekranoplan could cross the Atlantic in 12 hours, weather shouldn't be a bit of an issue.  The Pacific might be a different story mind you, but for Australia/China/Japan/Malaysia/Philippines it should also be manageable.

Sure they may not have the same capacity as the current crop of container ships, but a standard container ship takes approximately 1 week to cross the Atlantic (at least from the UK to Halifax, where I used to work), and an ekranoplan could make the trip over and back in one day.

Plus, the ability to go inland some distance (depending on terrain of course) would mean less reliance on coastline for shipyards.  Cargo could be brought inland, providing faster delivery to landlocked areas.

It could theoretically revolutionize shipping as we know it if it were to ever be explored.

Definitely liking the looks of this.  Donnie Yen being in it is definitely a exciting prospect. 8)

I hope it is much better than Agents of Shield, the Flash, Gotham, Arrow or Agent Carter.  I really have no desire to see a Disnified, watered down version of Star Wars.

Nor a needlessly gritty and dark version like Stargate Universe.

Okay, I have to admit (nearly 20 pages in) that my initial concerns (i.e. "I have a bad feeling about this") were unfounded. It could have all turned out a lot worse.  :-)

I'm with you there - I really enjoyed the new one - it had it's weird moments - Chewy walking straight past Leia after Hans death and Chewy being fine with Rei driving the Falcon.  But pretty pretty pretty good as my mentor Larry David would say.

Chewy walking straight past Leia after Hans death

Yeah that was pretty weird, along with Leia not wanting to go see Luke? (I get she's a busy lady, doing General stuff, but Han just died, and she's just discovered the location of her brother. She couldn't get a day off? Maybe someone in the Resistance should start a union, get some basic workers rights going)

I mean they really wanted the whole leia/rey hugging scene, passing on the legacy etc etc, it was magical, and there was strong female role models everywhere, we all had a great time, but maybe some eye-contact and a chewie growl?

Leia: Hmm, my (Husband? Ex? Baby-daddy?) just went on a dangerous mission.
Oh, here comes his best friend and co-pilot chewie, who I've also had many adventures with, well screw that guy.
Whoop, here comes some 20something girl I've barely met, I'll get my news from her, and hug it out.
