that sounds very easy to repair when you are in the middle of nowhere :)

It could be... you'd have less weight and a lot less moving parts to deal with.

The things that generally get damaged are axle splines, and having a nice potent electrical system would allow you to have a very good welder at the side of the trail, and the axle splines would really be no different than the ones on a gas powered one anyway.  And, with four separate motors, you could theoretically take three times as much damage as a combustion vehicle and still make it home.

Honestly, the only issue I see would be the waterproofing.  Yeah, it could leave the factory water tight, but who knows what can happen after it finds a few rocks?

I own 2,  both 2012 JKU's. One in gecko green and the other in crush orange.  Here's a pic of my gecko at Uwharrie.

Very nice.  I was originally going for Gecko Green but the factory called and told me they ran out of paint and I'd have to pick another color.  I decide to go with Commando Green, which is what I got.

I'm going to try to get some beauty shots today.  And I'll tell the whole tale.

Following the inputs from a well known Jeep owner I know, I went for the Sahara trim line.  Manual transmission.  3 piece hard top.  Just got it back from the shop where they installed aftermarket heated seats.

More to come!

Good choice!  Heated seats are a must have!

We really appreciate them in the cold, but also after a day of adventuring they help dry us (and the seats!) out in the warmer weather as well!

I own a 1998 ZJ, 4.0, NP242, my daily driver. My Dad has a 1994 ZJ, 5.2, 268,000 miles, retired now since he got a newer SUV.

I love the 4.0L inline six.  It may have been a pig, but it had some serious low end to it.  The newer 3.6L Pentastar is nice, but it is weird to see how much it screams.  I can probably count on one hand the number of times the 4.0 in my TJ red lined, or even beat 3,000 RPMs, but it seems like the Pentastar does it constantly!   :ahhh

Still, it does the job and almost doubles the horsepower of the 4.0L, while still getting better fuel economy, so I guess it's not that bad.  Still, we'll see if the 3.6L is still going strong half a million miles and 40 years from now!

First, a picture:

We decided that we needed another AWD/4WD vehicle for bad weather.  My wife wanted the VW Tiguan for bad weather, and didn't think a 17 year old Cabrio was sufficient for me to drive into work with.  Now we've been very short handed since the end of October, due to the illness of one of my partners, so I didn't really have time to go to dealers and haggle.  Instead, I contacted them all by email and ran my negotiations via email.  We finally agreed on a black Sahara.

As I said, 3 piece hard top, manual transmission and aftermarket heated seats.  Not a lot more to say!

I guess you can say I'm very pleased...

Redline is really high, like 8K!  3K is still in the sweet spot on the tach.

Looking good there Nate!  I seriously considered the manual when I bought mine but in the end the desire to have remote start won me out.  I drove my TJ and froze my arse off too many times to not want a fighting chance!   :ahhh

Oh, and heated seats are a must in places that have winter!

Just watch the windshield- I am about to put my fourth one in after yet another stone chip and resulting crack.

Interesting thing about Amazon pricing...

It can vary widely!  :o

I ordered my soft top for the Jeep yesterday.  Here's a screen capture of the price:

I realized the Amazon Garage feature kept saying "not compatible with your vehicle" even though the item description listed 2017's.  So I asked the question and yes it's the right part.  The seller sent me a link to the same item (with a different price!!):

I thought maybe it was so much more because it didn't "see" my Prime membership so I signed into the link and got a better price but still more than I actually paid  8) :

Nice!  I love the look of the frame less tops, but I hate the idea of cutting out that much space for Daisy when we go places.

So the latest project that I've done to my Jeep was making tube fenders for it.  Well I guess I didn't make them, but I did have to assemble them.

This is how they started:

Starting to build them:

Painted, color matched to the Jeep:

Holes drilled in the grill for some JK turn signals:

Old VS new:

All done and installed:

Well this is the first Jeep I've seen in the UK that I thought 'I'd have that'.

I took this photo leaving my sons school sports day, as I was taking the photo a voice behind me said 'you like it?'  So 30 minute conversation ensued.

Turns out that he was inspired to build this after seeing a Defender 90 in the village. I laughed and he asked why? I replied that he was talking about my car

That's hilarious!

While I was out of town last week Megan bought a Jeep accessory.  We picked it up today- this isn't my pic, but it's exactly the same model and color.

It's a 1976 Apache Ramada hard sided folding camping trailer.  She's been drooling over them for a while and finally got one at a decent price.  It needs a bit of work and cleanup yet, but it should be a fun project.  It is also the biggest folding trailer I've ever seen- the box on it alone is 8 feet wide and 12 feet long.   :ahhh

I really wish the 4wd companies would utilise one of the new 2ish liter diesels that are currently producing plenty of power so that they can offer a good but  cheaper product, for out of the US customers.

200Hp, 400Nm Torque is enough - older diesel units, used in Europe, were fine with 100Hp for offroading.

I believe there is a diesel going to be offered in the Wrangler next year (?) and a full on hybrid engine by 2020?  I may have my dates wrong, but I know they are coming.
