Very cool, thanks for sharing.  :tu:  For those interested, Lincoln's knife was a 6-bladed Congress.  I think I've posted a pic of it somewhere on the forum before.

As you know, I'm a big fan of pocket notebooks as part of one's EDC.  Here's an article about pocket notebooks of 20 historical figures :tu:

I still carry and use a notebook at work.  I used to use one in my personal life too, but now I find it easier to jot down notes on my phone, computer or tablet and store them in Dropbox so I can access them from just about anywhere.  Despite taking notes I am almost criminally disorganized, so having text files with titles that are descriptive of what's in them helps me find what I need when I need it.

Good that I searched this forum first, there is already an EDC history thread!

I stumbled upon these two articles about former times' EDC items:

Bronze Age EDC: The Tools of Oetzi

and

Chatelaines: The Victorian women's SAK

I read the first and found it very well written and authentic. I am currently reading the second, but I wanted to give you guys a heads-up! ;)

And now I have found 3 more articles to study :D

People with empty pockets don't make history.
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

I find Oetzi's set-up truly fascinating. I read about Nessmuk 2 or 3 weeks ago and it seems both could go on a happy trip together. A working man's knife and a sharp axe.  :viking:

And I liked the part about the little bags, that reminded me of the samurai's Inro.
There is a lot to learn from history, for EDC and Bushcraft as well as for any other field. I have a german Bushcraft/Survival Book from the 60s. These articles make me want to read it again.

Do you mind sharing the book title? I think I might have some sleepless nights where a bit of easy reading might be distracting. ;.)

I am not sure if this is still in print or a avaiable for a reasonable price:
Hans-Otto Meisner
Die überlistete Wildnis - Vom Leben und Überleben in der freien Natur
Bertelsmann, München, 1967
ISBN 3-570-06600-2

I bought this maybe 2003 from the library in Brühl for 1€. Wikipedia says: "... eines der ersten umfassenden Werke zum Thema Survival in deutscher Sprache" - The "umfassend" - comprehensive is surely right, it covers every climate.
