Key chain Drivers DIY

Keychain Drivers

I've been asked about my keychain drivers a few times on edcf and asked for a DIY from my last carry pic here, so decided to pull my DIY from edcf here.
They're cheap to make and don't take long

You will need:
- Pratley Steel Putty (epoxy in putty form) from the hardware store. You can use normal epoxy but take's longer
- The Cover of a damaged Audio Jack. If you carry Brass or gold items, you can get gold plated one's from the electronics store

- A small piece of of paracord, a small keyring and most nb the driver bit you want

Start by tying a knot on the piece of paracord and pull it through the jack cover.
You may need to twist the knot to get it past the threaded section

Cut 2 small pieces of the epoxy putty, mix like normal and stuff it in the audio jack

- Shove the bit in the epoxy, center as best as possible and press the epoxy against the bit and jack cover
- (To neaten the epoxy) Push the bit into a bit hole in any pocket tool, roll on a hard surface then dip your finger in water and smooth the edges
Repeat until satisfied
-Clean the excess epoxy off the jack cover

To touch up put any decoration you want on the paracord. I just used a piece of spring from the Audio jack mentioned before.
Lastly attach a small keyring or metal ring on the paracord to put the tool on a keychain.

After about 12 hours or so the tool will be ready for use. I wait 24 hours to be safe

For more torque a pocket tool with a bit hex hold works well

Very cool  :tu: could you put a little magnet inside and have the bits removable

I use a bit driver off a mt i picked up at a carboot sale, its magnetic so o leave a bit in it plus other bits in a pill capsule, yours are much cooler  :salute:

That is an excellent idea and a really neat outcome  :tu: :tu:

I am thinking of doing that :). I found a magnet that can fit inside but not sure if the epoxy is strong enough for a removable bit mounting

You hit on my favorite thing,  re purposing,  or better yet, cheap solutions.

I buy crimp caps as paracord decoration ($1 for 12)  (mine are open on both ends

inner tubes for ranger bands  (bike shop gives them to me for free)

this is another budget friendly piece of awesomeness!

If I can help, let me know

Detron, Id like to use your idea of crimp caps if I may. :)

Help your self!  I cannot afford $8.00 metal beads, so I look for junk that works.  I spent 3 hours in a big hardware store looking on every isle, when I discovered those crimp caps  (the picture I put up was just a quick reference from the net.  I will add some when I get home)  the caps I bought look like a rivet without the "nail" that is pulled out.  but bigger.   if you run across something else let us know.

We should start a thread for upcycling (improved recycling)

Jph0200 made some awesome drivers.

I do not have any audio jacks,   but I will get some.   But for now, I can show what I made to hold me over.

Yes,  that is part of a skillcraft ink pen.  The type that had a kind of grippy Rubbery body.  Had to carve out the one side to fit the bit.   I used the awl on my Surge for that.   Then super glued everything in place

Nice cant wait to see :)

Please dont get normal epoxy, it not only takes longer but is very messy as well

When ever you want :)
They're very quick. My 1st one (the black philips) took about 15 to 20 min

The others only took 5 to 10 min

Jph0200,

So,   I made my drivers,   and tweeked your instructions a little.

I added a a washer that would fit inside the audio Jack sleeve,  but not fit out the back.

Had to remove some of the inner stands to get the paracord through the washer.   Also had to use an inner stand to get the bite of the cord through the washer.

Today at the flea market one guy was selling really strong magnets cheap.  When I say strong,  I mean strong.   Rare earth strong

I bought 16x 1/4 Magnets and 3x  3/8
For $4

I put one on the back of each bit,   now they are magnetic.   The lady picture shows how magnetic.   Once the epoxy sets,   I will see how much it can hold

Them I used a 1/4 inch compression  sleeve from the plumbing section as a bead

Will see how it goes :)
