Absolutely YES! That’s exactly how I designed it. No need for bungee loop to prevent loosing. Note that the rod holder is kept by screws on one side only. Between that and sheath I put 0.15” rubber washers, so it’s no problem to pivot the rod holder and draw the rod if I need it. But there’s no way it can be lost by accident.

I used this idea before on my TRC South Pole, works like a charm:

I picked up some really great fixed blades and neglected a few I had.  Over the weekend I packed my HEST.  I remember thinking it was such a thick blade till I got the BK2.  I haven't carried the BK2 but I did put a razor edge on it.  Its one heck of a slab of steel thats for sure.  It makes my HEST seem tiny which is funny cause its still a hunk of steel itself.  Both can be considered sharpened pry bars IMO and both can get very sharp.  I always wanted a BK2 but now that I have it I'm not sure its purpose  :dunno:.  I read a few pages back and the BK2 is a really awesome knife but goodness its one heavy beast too.  Probably best for a car or camper .  I do like it and its comfortable in hand.

Its funny how now my HEST seems reasonable in terms of thickness.

Yup the BK2 is a hand full. As one commentator stated long ago and I paraphrase the BK2 main purpose is to dismantle Buick's.    :D

Yeah me too.  Its a great knife that has got a really nice convex grind to it now.  The beak ( pry tip ) at the end is a little weird for me still but I have hesitated to remove it since it gives the knife an interesting look.  The deep choil and jimping are awesome in hand.

I have a RAT3 thats fairly similar however much thinner blade material.  Thinner in hand and just as comfortable oddly enough.  The thin blade material lends itself to a variety of chores for me but I do like the HEST quite a lot for a work knife.

I understand the idea behind the HEST but I'm thankfully never in hostile environments so a work knife it is.  The RAT3 is wonderful all around.

Well, I am still very much enamored with my Izula.  Recently I added paracord to the handle but immediately removed it.  The thinness of the knife is what really strikes me.  Its so comfortable in my hand as is.  While its about a 3 finger knife for me it fits my hand wonderfully.  I find the length of the blade just enough for all I do with it.  The thinness of the blade material is wonderful.  Every time I think I'd like a bit more knife the Izual reminds me I have a near perfect one.  At home I just carry it in pocket and its great sitting waiting for a job.

Nice knives everyone congrats.

I occasionally run in a state park that has prohibitions concerning the length of the blade on a knife. They have stipulated a blade of less than 3.5".I would hazard a guess this rule was implemented to rule out the carry of a Buck 110 because of the popularity of that  knife.Like I stated ,it's just a guess. I decided to carry a fixed blade instead of a lightweight folder today.

Several years ago I modified a Buck 116 Caper  to be more compact and possess the ability to carry it closer to the body. This is it in its present form compared to another 116 Caper in its original factory condition.

This has become my favorite blade to carry while at home.  I cannot say enough about it.  I tend to chose smaller fixed blades but this feels perfect in my hand.
