I know that the forum has changed quite a bit since I began :ahhh ;)

It is all of our responsibility to try and keep it what we want :salute: I stay because of the people as I always have

Always glad to see you on here Mechy and I am always saddened when I read threads with members that are no longer here :-\

And here is my original post from 2008 :o a bit hard to read as most of my posts are when I tend to ramble

I was looking for stuff about the PST on Yahoo first came across MTO.org and just read several of the reviews, found a review on the Sebertech M3 (and was like wow :o thats neat that they have a review of that particular tool) red it then left only to come back later on when I did another search on Yahoo for the PST and came across Spoonrobots rusty PST post and read it, then continued for a while reading a lot of the posts here before  deciding to join.  Very glad I joined, great bunch of ppl here from all over the world.  Glad to know all of you guys  :D

I still feel the same about all of you guys now as well :tu:

I was looking for a screwdriver. :like:

I had a Huntsman clone, which I gave to my brother, because he had bought one of those silver scaled cheapos. So I gave it to him, and went online to see what's going on, since I wanted an edc screwdriver. I discovered the SwissChamp, then got a Fieldmaster, then I saw multi-tools. I remembered seeing a boy in school who had a cheap one, with thick red scales, but it was so cool. It had pliers!

So I went online to have a look. I ordered a Micra for my keys, and got the Wingman, and one for my brother. We were not amused. I ordered a Rebar, which was $48 US then, and my brother got a Surge. Much better.

So I thought I should look up some reviews to make better decisions on what to get next. After a few youtube reviews, I got sick of seeing people praise the Wingman, and thought I should find a site with written reviews. And I found MTO.

As to what keeps me here, well, it's pretty much my online happy place. I get to learn about new and old tools, post memes, join challenges, take a shot at contests, look at pretty pictures and post my own, get ideas about my edc, suggestions on maintenance/modding, ask for help with identifying tools, even bought wrenches from loki.
Seeing how nice of a resource this was, I knew it would be my second home, so I started cleaning up and organizing, with the SAK Clubs, Knife Clubs etc, Multimedia threads, and Review Inventory.

And since reviews were the one thing that brought me here, and seeing how few get posted lately, I took it upon myself to post some of my own, which also helped me as a multi-tool user.

In my very early days I was reading reviews on MT and was only browsing for a pretty long time. I didn't know there was a forum. Only when I joined the forum then I read about so many things.. Especially the mod squat section. I literally looked through every single pages looking for ideas. MTO is by far the friendliest forum for tools around. Some other forums can be nasty, typical fan boys of certain brands that downplay others. Well, to each his own. I myself would like to explore other brands even some no names ones. Sometime we find treasures if we do not narrow our vision.

What got me here...  Around 2007 I discovered SOSAK online, which helped me decide upon purchasing the Spartan Lite.  I ultimately purchased the Soldier entirely on impulse.

In 2019 I lurked around MTo, mostly for the pictures, and I wasn't much for the discussion at the time.  I really don't remember what made me join MTo... I think it was the notion that being involved in the discussion would be a way for me to get my antennae out for a nonserrated OHT that I was after.  I've since gotten one.

What's kept me here is the pictures, the discussions, and the good people here.  There's no politics, no flaming and trolling, grimy bits of internet culture.   It's also a good sounding board for the pointless SAK and MT related randomness that pops in my head.  I can spend two hours mulling over which SAK I should carry, and wondering how to line up practicality and plain old silly obsession, and there's always someone here to sort me out or send me down some rabbit hole so I can obsess less about any one thing.

Wow, just like me and Playboy...

Aaahw thanks <3
I definitely like having you around too.

I definitely like having you guys around three.

  :tu:

Mech, look at MTo like life. You won't like everyone and everything you see. In time, you drift away from what you don't like and keep what you like.

Same here.

Awlso, somehow, things tend to sort themselves out and only the good remain (and me, albeit in the Naughty Step, most of the time...).

I’d been buying MT’s and edc items for about 20 years and always like to research online for reviews, user tips etc and many times MTo would come up but I’d never really been a forum user so just would read what I was interested in and move on.

However I kept seeing this pattern that MTo would so often have the best advice and most people interested in the same things, still didn’t see myself as a forum user so again read and moved on.

Earlier this year I had a lot more time on my hands due to COVID so was doing the usual many web searches and as usual MTo would come up etc.

This time I thought, here’s a group of people with truly aligned interests, none of my friends are really into it so I don’t have anyone to talk to about one of my big passions. So took the plunge and joined about 6 months or so ago.

Well I have to say I’m hooked :)

My SAK collection has grown ridiculously (loving it!) I’ve managed to acquire 18 badges which I’m most pleased with, (having been collecting as long as I have definitely gave me a head start), and am onto my second 30 day challenge with a couple more lined up, great fun.

I’ve found everyone really friendly and helpful and don’t think I’ve seen any arguments (beyond some friendly ribbing) at all.
I did join another well known similarish forum at the same time - I’ve literally not posted one thing there and haven’t been back, not the same atmosphere at all.

Genuinely hatsoff :hatsoff: to the admins and members of this forum, I’ve been made to feel extremely welcome and although only a newbie have never been made to feel like one, everyone’s opinions are treated equally even though there’s obviously some members who essentially have masters degrees in the topics.

Thanks MTo for such a friendly inclusive place, no snobbery about how long you’ve been a member or how many MT’s you own, all are treated equally and that’s a rare thing, I salute you :salute:

Now back to see what’s been posted in the minimal SAK challenge in case I’ve missed something :) :pok:

Its been great having you.  The 30 day challenges have been a blast for many and while I've on'y done 1 I follow along in many.  Those magnets are pretty sweet that comis makes.  MTO like many things is what you all make it.  We've got a great group here and I am very proud to be part of it.  While this year has challenged most if not all of us MTO is a gathering place to just forget it all for a moment.  I hope so any way.  Sure our wallets and purses are lighter but hey, it only money right?  I went thru my SAKs the other day having forgot some pretty neat ones I've found.  While not terribly valuable the happiness finding them and having them is worth the price of admission.

Not much can be so fun for the money spent and keep being fun.  At least in my opinion.  Then I get to come on MTO and talk about it with y'all who are even more excited in some instances than I am.  Its great to share and to participate.  I love having my morning coffee with y'all.  Then a little before bed I check in again.  Great way to start and end my day.

I used to belong to another multitool/edc forum because the Mrs belonged to soo many groups I was like this is bs, so I was like what’s something I really like which was knives and multitools so I looked for a forum and found that one and somehow i think someone mentioned this page, yet after so long I kinda gave up on the other forum and just stuck with this one because it wasn’t like strictly knives or tools, this forum was more like a group, you learned about the person behind the aviator, and since more and more people hung around, I mean, I’ve text members personally and even spoken on the phone with one on a personal level, not that I like phones, it just felt like a family page rather then a strict forum, thus why I’ve been here for 9yrs,,

Looking for reviews before buying a MT I found MTO and lurked for about a year before I decided to sign up so I could join in the conversations instead of just reading them.  I've stayed because so many members here think like me and we get along. The generosity of the MTO members is incredible. I have been the happy beneficiary of random acts of kindness as well as a few of the anniversary giveaways. It's really refreshing to find a group that shares my interests and understands me. Previously I'd been banned from two other internet forums and was escorted from the premises of one real life social club just for asking people if they wanted to see pictures of my SAK and my dangler. :dunno:

I was searching for pictures of modified multi tools.  I started noticing that the vast majority of the pictures were all coming from the same place.  Then after checking out the forum I started reading threads on all the different things people would talk about on here.

Not long after I joined, I got a job where I had a private office.  I spent about 3 hours a day reading through the forums instead of working.  Good times.
