Thanks ALM, good info.  I know what you mean about the WIP shots, but I'm just the opposite.  I love to see the process, the dirt, the piles of prototypes.

Very nice.  Is that a 93mm or 91mm small blade?

Thanks! It's a small blade from a 91mm SAK.

TatSteve I have a OC Pioneer that has some issues closing, like it lost some of its snap.

Is that something that can be fixed?

Yes it can be. Cleaning it throughly is the first step. After that who knows. It is possible a pin is bent or something is broke. Either of those I can fix :)

Good thread but I never leave wd40 in a sak. It displaces water and dirt which is good. But after that always clean it off. Then use a good grade mineral oil. I've noticed since I switched to using that instead of some other lubrication it works great.

Apologies in advance because I'm sure this has been covered, but would anyone care to share either a source or idea for the proper size pin stock for the rivets? I'd like remove the corkscrew and install a Philips driver in a Waiter as my first mod...  :)

2.5mm for the tools and 2.2mm for the springs and backtools.

I'm sure you have probably encountered this, but a Waiter with a phillips instead of a corkscrew is called an Apprentice (some boxes had them accidentally labelled "Apprenice" without a t).

As for a source for the rod, especially the 2.2mm, some local hobby shops might have something available but if you look on here, someone recently posted a source in the UK.

Good luck.  The Apprentice is one of my favorites.

One other thing. I thought 84mm was 2.2mm for all pins and 91mm was 2.5mm for the tools and 2.2mm for the back tools and springs.  All of the pins on 93mm are 3.0mm if I remember correctly.  Of course I'm new so I could be wrong.

93mm knives have a 2.5mm centre pin, not 3mm. Otherwise, all good. :tu:

SAK Guy, me too. It's amazingly capable for such a small tool, one of my favourite Vic implements.

Thank you all for the info, I have a local hobby shop or two that needs visiting...   :tu: I had seen the Apprentice but unfortunately also saw the prices some bring! Figured I'd probably spend twice as much, bugger a couple perfectly serviceable knives, curse a bit, and try to make my own...   :)
