Troubleshooter:

All latest-generation parts, no keyring, fine driver instead of the chisel on the file, and a nail file on the hook.

I did continue to next slim scissor prototype. Added layer but still quite slim:

Getting to be close to get friend for supertool. Vic "leather". Though don't know how well leather will last on scale.

I'd be most afraid of what will happen to those rivets. The risk seems high that they'll cut into the leather and you'll start getting play in the tools.

Yes it will not be long life solution. Leather glued and rivets go quite much through leather. I did leave just scissors and use until have time and idea to make better scale..

I've come to the conclusion that they just get in the way, particularly when using the small blade, on the smaller knives.  I do use the keyring for bigger knives to clip it to a pocket dangler but prefer the feel of the knives without them.

What about stabilizing leather in epoxy resin? (either a kind of leather micarta or leather inclusion in resin)

Epoxy resin could be one thing to test. You could put other then leather inside as well (insects etc..) But yes could work. Edges from leather at least handle with some stuff.

Original scales had trouble to stay place with mod riverts so did scales from chopping board. Ice blue mod. Not the winner of beauty contest but quite okay to handle.

Finished this one with an inline awl. The awl had a broken tip, so I had to shorten it a little.

Also working on GAK rebuilds. Top row is all VIC with new blades except for one.

Bottom row are mix-and-match rebuilds of other brands...two Adlers, Aitor and a B&H. Still have a pile of them to work on...mostly ICARs

Thanks. I've known about the inline awl mod for years...just didn't want to sacrifice an Alox knife for it. The blade was pretty well sharpened down too. The scales and opener layer are going to get pinned together as a bar tool

I've sorted out enough parts for three Woodsman...they are going to replace the SAKs that live permanently in packs I use. Currently there is a Rucksack, Huntsman and Camper.

Lovely Spork! Out of interest (as I'm about to embark on a mod myself) did the awl drop in ok as it is?
Looking forward to pics of the Woodsmen - my fave SAK!  :salute:

Spring tension is good...walks and talks. I was a little bit apprehensive because of the slightly larger pivot hole and the tang seeming to be a hair thicker, but it seems to work.

Thanks.  :salute:

I see you have set it in behind the cap lifter - does the edge of the awl sit on the cap lifter nicely? Do you have any more pics? Sorry for al lthe questionsbut it's been an ambition of mine to do this for a while. Great to see you've done it!

It's in the normal position in lieu of the pen blade. I think the reflections in the photo make it look reversed  I'll have to take another photo of the blades closed later...

Ya I thought the same, but the slightly oversize hole didnt seem to matter.  Vic does the same when they add the eblade and pruner to the xlt's and bigger ones.

Im sure I have extra new awls from 93s if anyone is needing any for mods.  I did 93mm mods for years and lots of them had small blades or other in place of the awls, so I ended up with many spares.

Did you thin down the spacer under the blade tip since the awl is a bit thicker than small blade?  I did this on the ones I built, but Im not convinced it was necessary.

I did not...just banged it in as it was...thought about it, but the extra thickness was very minimal.

Black and red Pioneer, with scissors added and pen blade in place of the can opener.

Hand made brass liners and small blade spacer.  Note poor finish on edges of scale; thanks Victorinox. ::)

Nice work! Did the pen blade drop right in place of the can opener with no mods? Is it one from a 91mm?

Thank you! Other than drilling the pivot to 3mm and bending the blade inwards to clear the cap lifter it's as standard on the 91mm knives.

Could you describe how you go about bending a blade? I'm scared i'll snap it.

I just grip the blade in soft jaws in a vice so only the tang sticks out then gently bend the tang with some pliers. I do worry about them snapping but the Vic steel is quite ductile.
