Signal pivot bolt
Reply #842 on: February 26, 2024, 05:16:46 PM
Hi guys, if anyone still posts in here, need your help. I love my Signal almost as much as my kids ;) and have modded it to include my Wingman scissors. Problem is I lost the black-oxide pivot bolt that goes on the tool end. It's the button-head with Torx security, not one of the larger ones with flat heads on the plier side.

Some of these bolts are sold on eBay for ~$30, which I can't justify for a small bolt. Right now, I'm using a stainless-steel bolt from the Wingman - those threads fit the Signal barrel nut, though the head has a larger dome. It just doesn't look right.

So my question is, how do I find the specs for a replacement bolt? Leatherman doesn't sell them, and the big stores don't carry them. (I've brought in the barrel nut to try the fitment, but they only they have #4, #6, 8, etc.). I don't have a caliper measure. I can get the length and width with a ruler (and a serious pair of reading glasses), but I'm hoping there's a relatively straightforward way to measure the pitch/thread spacing so I can be sure I'm ordering the right one.

Thanks for any input.

Excellent pic, David :woohoo: :like: :like:

Gotter, I hope you can find a replacement screw but you may have to either send it in for warranty or try and buy a replacement on ebay :dunno:

Thanks, Poncho. I'm pretty sure my mods voided the warranty. I'll pull the trigger on eBay if someone sells it at a reasonable price.

They just added a new Signal colorway  to the website. You can now get the Aqua option with stainless steel tools.

Yes, I did pay 20+€ to get a black file part from Ukraine  but it was worth it.

That would probably stand out among nature pretty good. I'd sure like to see a Signal inbright orange or yellow.

"Blue" had just arrived; it is my new-to-me Signal (dated 0922), and it will be a special project!

Debating about carrying the Signal in the recumbent trike's tool bag instead of the Skeletool CX that I traded a used KF4 for. Would have a lot more going for it, and it rarely ever gets used. The hammer end could be useful. Only part I do not like about the Signal is not having full or half sized file on board. Seen the whistle replacement on Etsy.

Think I've been carrying the Skeletool CX as it was lighter in weight. And when I ride I usually carry some sort of multitool on me, or when going just about anywhere for that matter.

Signal and the Surge are probably my least used multitools. Not sure what to do with the BO Surge. Would toss it into the car's toolbox but I have a Wave in the glove compartment.  I try to find uses for my multitools. Wished the Surge I had was of the 2nd revision, but it is of the first incarnation version.
