I am still excited to get my hands on the powerplay. The lock tabs do protrude some. I'll reserve judgement until I get it in hand. The reactor seems like the Powerduo and Skeletool love child. I am sure the bits from the powerplay can be used on the reactor. And I am glad they didn't keep the driver on the arm :ahhh

overall after initial close up videos I think SOG r & d department has put in hard work and it is paying off. Vic still hasn't put out an explorer with pliers  Leatherman is relying on their name and putting out lazy designs. SOG seems to be rebuding their brand. If qc is up to par this will put them back in the game as serious contenders.  Thanks for putting in ot rdub getting those videos and pics up. :hatsoff:

My pleasure! I have been anxious about SOGs offerings this year - glad to finally have something to actually get excited (or disappointed about).

I think you are right about your state of the MT union, and it definitely seems like SOG are actually trying to regain what they lost from 2010 and 2014 after making some changes and putting out some products that were/are below standard. The PowerDuo does have it's merits, but at what they were expecting MSRP SOG were crazy. CrossCut 2.0 is pitiful. Lazy is the precise word that comes to mind when I think about LM they last few years - especially this year.

If the PowerPlay and Reactor are up to the same quality standard as SOG's anchors such as the PL, PPP, and SP2.0. That will make or break SOG with this year's offerings because the tools look well thought-out :tu:

The Reactor looks way better than it did in the leaked pic. I'm thinking SOG might have a hit here.
Agreed.  I wonder if there is space to slip another double sided bit into the bit holder. If there is, and SOG gets the QC right,  this could be a Skeletool killer.

Sadly in Europe won´t be a Skeletool killer.

In Spain spring assited knives are forbidden weapons.
A liner lock would be enough!  :twak: :twak: :twak:

See what our police has confiscated as forbidden weapons...:

Another confiscation:

They really confiscate those flimsy credit card knives as illegal weapons?
Maybe they're just concerned it'll crumple and mutilate the user's hand when they try to open a letter

Aftet watching the close up video again I wonder if the bits that come with the powerplay are standard bits? Meaning you can use any normal bits in the powerplay driver. That would be a huge bonus. Any thoughts?

Thought I heard him say they're regular 1/4" hex bits in there somewhere.

That reactor looks very sweet, but why black blade? I will have to remove that coating.

Yes, fixed blade must be carry openly, not concealed or disguised.
Technically speaking, Swisscard 's knife is a fixed blade. If the cops and DA really want to make a case of of it, they can.

Another video of the new tools. You get a better idea of the Reactor's overall size and thickness in this one, not as bad as I originally thought. Looks pretty equivalent to the Skeletool.

One thing worth a mention. In California it is illegal to conceal a fixed blade on your person, but there was a court ruling that was made case law making it legal to conceal a fixed blade in anything you carry like a backpack, tackle box, or purse as those are not considered "on your person" under the letter of the law.  :tu:

Just a bit of knowledge for anyone interested. I take knowing my CA knife laws very seriously.

The Reactor has spring assisted blade and liner lock.

Could it be possible to disengage the assisted opening and left a normal liner lock knife?c

Thanks

It really depends on the spring mechanism, and how SOG decides to implement that mechanism.

Some more SOG PowerPlay screen caps from the second video. Because, you know, everybody loves pictures. Right?

The screwdriver thing is kinda neat but it seems like it will be a major pain if you don't have much clearance around a screw.

Throw an extension in your kit? One of the best parts of this being a 1/4" hex is that there's quite literally millions of pieces to suit your needs. Attach a pen-clip to a 4" extension and you can clip it to the sheath if you choose to carry it in one. Worst case (don't carry a sheath), you're not much worse of compared to the Leatherman offerings.

Edit, for me this is one of those "why is this feature not out before now" cases. With space inside the tool so limited this seemed like such an obvious solution once I saw it.

Looks like that bit driver feature will be a very necessary part of the design. The on-board Phillips isn't filling me with confidence

Lol, I was thinking "why even include that crappy Phillips? Everyone is just going to go straight for the bit driver." Save that slot for something else. The glaring omission on the PP being scissors.

I a little surprised (okay not really) that no improvement on the can-opener design :twak: Oh well, baby steps, I suppose. A lot of good incorporated on the PowerPlay. It does look like it will be very comfy in hand. The file looks like an immense improvement over the existing design. And finally some outside access tools. :salute: I am just hoping quality is where it should be. If these are more kin to the PowerDuo than the PowerLock all the good ideas will be for naught

All very good points :tu: I especially agree with your last point - probably Leatherman and Gerber are slapping their foreheads after seeing this. It doesn't take up any additional space inside the tool, it's basically a locked feature but requires no complex mechanism to do so, and it puts the bit perfectly center-lined with the tool. I wonder if SOG got this idea patented? They would have been wise to do so, because I bet we see some copy-cats.

Hmmm, I wonder if the reps from the different companies go over and check out the competition's booths. I know I would! Lol

This, what's up with manufacturers having such a hard time making toolsets that compliments each other? I'm also a bit peeved that it seems as if though they are moving away from exchangeable tools.
