I'm surprised no one responded yet.  I don't have any first hand knowledge of the Kershaw Emerson Wave feature.  I do have experience with the Emerson Mini Commander Wave feature and it's pretty sweet.  As with any type opening system practice makes perfect.  Check out this video and see how this guy has some deployment issues but seems to get better.

I have a CQC-6K, it functions perfectly. The trick I found is, instead of pulling the knife BACK from pocket, I rotate the knife outward a little then pull it out. That works better for me.

Lift upwards to take out without deploying and backwards to deploy. I have no issues with this at all.

Great value knives; the 6K gives a good size with EDC task blade shape, they are a little heavy and mine scrapes on the one scale when opening left handed. The weight is well back in the hand; very handle heavy.
The strong frame lock seems to press the blade in one direction.

But I think they are great overall; does anyone have the 4XL to give us some insight? Looks really handy.

thanks guys, looks pretty cool, guess it would destroy pocket after awhile, but no matter. I kinda like the 5k, i dont have any knives in that millitary green, but I missed the recent amazon deal on it, hopefully it comes up again

The first one I had was returned, the locking mechanism was total crap. First it was so hard to release, after some adjustments it would not stay locked. The second was inspected by the retailer before shipment. The wave opening works ok, however it does take some practice and in a real life situation I can see a person forgetting how to do it and it not deploying properly.

I've used Emerson's and ZT collabs of Emersons. The F&F of the Kershaw ones at my local retailer left me cold. I was not impressed at all and would take a ZT any day as their F&F blows the actual Emerson's out of the water.

Do keep in mind that the more you wave the knife out of your pocket, the faster you'll need to replace your pants.

I very much liked the Kershaw/Emerson collaboration. The fit and finish was excellent. Everything on my normal mental check list was good. It fit the hand well. The price was right. My only complaint is the thumb disk as it is my least preferred opening method.

Spyderco makes some Emerson opening knives also. If you are worried about for and finish of the Kershaws.

Dont forget the "ghetto wave" feature you can add to most Spydercos. Add a zip tie around the top of the hole, and presto! Waved Spyderco. You can also cut a chunk out so the spyderhole is partially open, and use that as a wave opener

I have tried that and hate everything about using zip ties to "make" a wave. It barely worked for me as well.

To each their own, it just does not work for me. I will say I like the nut solution better (in theory) as it most likely won't completely destroy your pocket like a cut zip tie. Unless you use a zip tie to hold it.

The problem i have with any "wave" is that it is only useful when you are in standing, ready position. If someone jumped you from behind, pushed you down, unlikey you can wave it out.

Could you still pull it out and just use it like a regular knife?
