Invid Shock Troopers were the coolest.

(Image removed from quote.)

If only it wasn't for the eye up front that made them vulnerable.

I was thrilled when I found it, and had money to buy it, sadly it was very limited, and while articulated, did not open at all, but it looked cool, so there was that...

M.A.S.K. was pretty popular here, but not nearly on the level of GI Joe or Transformers.  Some others that were good but barely went anywhere were the Air Raiders and Visionaries.

I'm also surprised no one has mentioned another one of my favorites, Astroboy.

I used to watch it every morning before going to school.

And, in case anyone is wondering what many of their childhood favorites are doing these days, well,  be warned, this may be NSFW.

Def

I can't remember ever seeing Air Raiders, but I do remember Visionaries.  One short lived one I was into was the Sectaurs.

I don't think the Air Raiders ever made it to cartoons, but they were out around the same time as the Visionaries.

I had the first few Air Raiders comics. Took place on a planet called Airlandia, where air is at a premium and tightly controlled by the ruling class.   The bad guys were called the Tyrants of Wind.

Which come to think of it, would be a great campaign slogan.....

Inhumanoids

And maybe the dumbest cartoon idea ever... Turbo Teen

And as a bonus, the Robot Chicken spoof of Turbo Teen...

Sorry for the double post, but...

This is an art project some college students did, a homage/spoof in the style of 80s cartoons, and it is gloriously silly.

What the Smurf!  This was for kids? :ahhh  Definitely didn't see that one when I was ten, and I think I might be glad of that fact.

As bad as you think it was, it was probably worse than that.

Here are two more of my favorites:

Two more I didn't get to see. :(  I'm starting to think that there was a lot of TV that didn't make it across the Atlantic in the '80s.

Thundarr might have been late 70's, I can't recall exactly.   Here was another big one in the 80's but is even funnier in today's society.

Thundarr came out in October 1980 (according to the infallible wikipedia).

I remember "Ookla, Ariel, we ride!" well. Still use the quote occasionally.

I feel a need to add...
Dungeons and Dragons!

Thanks.  I assumed very late 70's or very early 80's.  Seems I wasn't too far off!

I ALMOST posted 'The Thing' cartoon, but turns out it was late 70s. I also almost posted 'Planet of the Apes' (Apparently, actually titled 'Return to the Planet of the Apes'), again late 70s, AND didn't even bother looking up Herculoids.

I don't think the cartoon police are going to come beat us mercilessly if we get one a few years off, though.

While this is from '78 apparently, I'm sure I was still watching it in the early '80s.

Smurfing Godzooky can even ruin a perfectly good theme song.

Palate cleanser, and returning to something akin to the Voltron mention that spurred on this thread...

The first anime I remember wasn't Robotech. It was 'Battle of the Planets' (1978), so that doesn't count. And, I never saw Star Blazers as a kid, AND it came out on '79 so that doesn't count either. But the first 80's anime i remember was Robotech.

So...

Robotech is now on demand via Crackle. I think one of my KODI addons has crackle in the listings I haven't checked it yet.

I cut a bedsheet into a bird-wing shaped cape when I was young. I got a spanking for it. Didn't matter, I was a member of G-Force, and could handle it. :D

I started rewatching Robotech the other night on Crackle (via a VoD app on my Kodi setup) my only minor complaint is that because it's old it's not widescreen... or particularly high resolution, but great nostalgia...

My brother and I often threw boomerangs at each other G-Force style.  They hurt when they connected which, I'll admit, wasn't all that often. :D

I have limited bandwidth at the moment, or I'd link it in.

Galaxy Rangers. Early-mid 80s and for the target demographic, surprisingly mature. The theme song was hideous, but the art is as good as a lot of what you find in cell drawn anime today. I ran into an episode a few years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised how well it had stood up to the passage of time.
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

"I love democracy" Sheev Palpatine, upon his election to Chancellor.
