You always take a very pleasing photo Steve, but that one is a doozy.  :hatsoff:  Also a very fine knife.

Not carried this little Richards penknife for a good while.  It is the knife that got me thinking that these trad patterns might not be such a bad thing to carry.  It might be a cheap as chips knife itself , but it's cost me a ruddy fortune over the years.  :D

Today, Barehead Trapper Wharnie to help trim inside edges on an overhead cabinet that the other tool cannot even  reach because of it size.

Well, here's a new (or rather quite old) knife that I picked up today.  A double spring whittler I suppose.  If you've got a better name I'm all ears.  What I couldn't possibly read in the shop was all the additional bits of script engraved on it.  I really need to get in the habit of carrying my reading glasses, I need them more than I used too.  :-\

So it's tang stamp is A. Mathieson & Sons for which there is some information on Wikipedia; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Mathieson_%26_Sons Can't really say if this means made in Edinburgh or Glasgow but it's nice to have a Scottish knife anyway.  At one point in my life I lived about a two minute walk from the Edinburgh address on Nicolson Street.

What I took to be a bit of decoration on one of the bolsters actually says "LINLITHGOW" a town in central Scotland with an impressive palace.  It also has a name on the bar which is a first for me.  W. DOUGAL and a date of 187*.  The 7 is really rubbed and the final digit is unreadable, however that ties up with the fact they didn't use the Star and Crescent Moon stamp until 1868.

That is a beauty.  What are those cover made of?

Very cool Mohave a knife from your hometown.  Love the bolster decor and shield with name.  That crescent and moon is a nice tang stamp as well.

Thank you Steve :hatsoff:

I probably would have passed that CASE by, if you and David had not shared your  lambs and other Wharnies in this thread.

Just noticed DLT has a tan/brown version on their web site as well exclusives in both clip and Wharncliffe blades.

Much as I'm very pleased with my new Mathieson whittler it's not the most practical knife.  For one thing I can't access the main blade nail-nick without moving the small blade first.  With that in mind I've got a much more mundane, but still pleasing, C. Johnson penknife in my pocket.
