Help me pick a new SAK, need a little help..
on: February 27, 2017, 01:46:34 AM
Hey, just like the subject says I need a little help! My son wants to get me a little something for my up coming bday, and idk what to even say, so I figured maybe a new sak? But what? I mean that Pioneer X came out so that would be cool, I edc a farmer so I lose the saw but gain the scissors.  then again I always kinda wanted to go bigger then a 93, so what about a Trekker? Get the nice one hand opening and locking blade, keep the saw and get a Philips, just no scissors. I just don't know?

Things I like,
Knife(obvious)
Scissors,
Saw,
Philips,
And the openers,

Suggestions?

I don't mine offering an opinion but you are the best judge of what you would like.  You like the Farmer...do you use the saw or just like having it (nothing wrong with a preference for a saw).  Would you rather have scissors or the saw?  Do you have a strong preference for Alox or would you also be happy with Cellidor?  These are just some questions I can suggest to assist with clarifying your needs/wants.  My own preference in determining a choice of SAKs is the combination of tools that I want.  In my case, it is the Explorer.

Good luck!

I like the 111mm blades a lot, but that is just me. Also, the nylon scales are better than cellidor in my opinion.

Um, let's see,
The saw, I love the saw, it's saved my @$$ a few times, but if need be I'd take the scissors over the saw.
Alox vs cellidor, tuff call, I like both..

The explorer is nice I just can't stand the corkscrew, and I'm not one for a mag..

Too much stuff, I have the champ+ that was my first, I might as well go with a fieldmast but I hate the fact that you get two blades,

It's probably the only 111mm that meets your list specs (and two inline Phillips drivers)....the Trekker is always a good choice but no scissors or Phillips.

The Fieldmaster fits your needs in 91mm.

Looks like you're gonna have to go with SG's advice and go to a 111 then. I don't know if the size of the main blade makes a difference, but I know I can't get away with using the blade of a 111 where I work.

Hmm... Super Tinker. Scissors, Phillips, but no saw. I don't know. I can't even pick the perfect one for me. I'd tell my kid what I like and be overly happy with whatever he chose. I'm sentimental though.

Why a SAK?  You have your sweet custom.  Maybe get something else you've been wanting?  I forget what you've posted you were looking at but maybe something along those lines.

Yeah I got that sweet custom(the pharmber) but that only really gets pocketed on special days, I only carry a simple sak that I can buy if it breaks.. I forget what else I needed, an alarm clock, but I got one,, baking pans, but that's on the wife's half.. lol..

I'm a one handed trekker devotee... solid, takes a beating, has most of what you want :) I've seen a mod here that added scissors to it, but then it starts to get on the heavy side. I could do the scissors instead of the saw but the bits dint work yet... :)
