I blame the ancient romans, would the greek economy have crashed if they hadn't taken all that golden loot?  :twak:

Ok everyone, I had suspected the tone of this thread might not end the best. I see many valid points on both sides but that is not the point of my post.  I will not take sides on this nor temporary ban anyone but from now on before anyone (and I do mean anyone) presses the post button, think about what you have typed out and see if you think it might be offensive were the tables turned and it would be directed at you.  We have a great forum with many cultures from all over the world and I love finding out tidbits of information and getting history lessons from many of you. When I first joined I had preconceptions of different peoples societies and after joining in on the conversation I was pleasantly surprised that I was mostly wrong with those preconceptions.  I found that even though we might have came from different parts of the world and different backgrounds I was very similar to many of you and that made me very happy.  So we need to get past this thread and get back to getting along because that is what we do here at MTO.  I enjoy the silliness and derailing of threads and the lightheartedness of this place and call this my internet home.  So as I said way back in the beginning of the thread let's get back to the old sarcastic MTO and not continue this bickering.  Thank you all for being you but from now on try to be a nicer you than you were before and let's quit taking all these subtle little jabs at one another and if you disagree with an individual, instead of calling them out just PM them and try to work it out.

A most excellent post, Poncho. :like:

Hi buddy, yes I do give both my pros and cons for certain tools and express my personal dislikes as well as my likes. I also like reading what others don't like about certain tools too. For example, I do very little wiring work since I sold the boat, and even before then, I only tended to use certain tools due to me working with oily hands next to deep water etc. I would probably not have discovered for myself that the Spirit doesn't like cutting certain wires for example, as it's not a tool that I would use down there for fear of it going "splash"  :D I am now aware of the limitations of that one aspect of that tool, thanks to the negative feedback from members here. There's probably loads more, but that's the one that springs to mind.

I personally think that the negative tool feedback is as important as the positive stuff. It also helps me understand how different tools work better or worse in other environments or tasks that I wouldn't otherwise experience myself. I know some folks don't like the negative feedback stuff, but I think if it wasn't there, everything would sound brilliant and flawless, and a lot of people coming to this forum for insights into different tools are more likely to end up buying a tool that isn't as well suited to their needs. It's always interesting talking to Cupboard at the UK meets for this reason (just to single out one person as an example), and seeing the pros and cons of tools through the eyes of someone whose usage is very different to my own.

Very true Al, if I'm asked I'll always tell someone pro's and cons on a tool and there are plenty  for example someone out a post up about the spirit, not a tool I'm a fan of,I tried it like many MT's but didn't get in with it,for me it's like the tti as can't see why it's so much more than a wave 😕 I know I know it has Titanium scales and better quility blade material, non of them things bother me,sometimes people paint a amazing story about a knife or MT but none of them are perfect and none of them is as good as a dedicated tool,I learnt this from years as a tradesman and maintenance man ,just pure backup ,as too say my post about the spirit got ignored  ;) but other than outside tools and  vics build quility, it's not for me,slippy feel ,slippy drivers,no proper lanyard hole, more blunted pliers than LM's ,plus for me LM's warranty and speed of repair/replacement is unparalleled in the uk,but only my opinion  :D and let's face it like A holes we all have one  plus we all have different uses for our MT's  :salute:

I do wonder what would the world think about a country where 50 liters/13.2 gallons of homemade hard liquor (40%) is considered personal and household consumption and is taxed by the size of the size of the still (about $40 for large stills that have double the volume of household consumption, half for smaller stills)
