Thanks guys!!! One of my favs for for nearly 25 years.  Lost my orig ('92) in the fire along with my cherished Camillus US Navy MK-2 bought back in the early 70's.

Another 334 was one of the first things I re-bought.

Got this little gem at a local flea market today for $8. An Olsen German made model 4800 (3 1/2) with file worked blade;one piece handle(birch maybe)and fancy brass pommel and guard. Goes along with my other Olsen Germany knives.

I played a bit with the ESEE 4 yesterday, and split some hardwood kindling. Locally it is known as "Sekelbos" (or "Sicklebush"). I would not say it's the best tool for the job, but in a pinch it can do it. The Gransfors Bruks handles that little task effortlessly in comparison.

Very nice  :salute:
Every time I see a stripped blade my fingers itch to introduce my BK's to some paint stripper, but since they're mostly in storage sanity has prevailed so far.

I'm very lucky I didn't get a smurf Sekelbos flat tyre going up the mountain this weekend, nasty stuff.....

I bought this ESEE uncoated, but yes if you don't oil it, it will develop rust quickly. I've had good luck with a light coating of silicone spray on my carbon steel knives.

That is a good tip and I may have to use that on a couple of my carbon steel knives

Here's a Puukko by Wood Jewel that I got as part of a set with a Leuku.  Anyway, I decided that this was a candidate as a bit of a project knife as, while there is nothing wrong with it, I wasn't in love either.  Not so obvious in the first pic but what I've done first is drop the point a little.

Here, let me show you a little more clearly.

And here's how it started as a far more traditional shape of blade.

Sorry for the poor pics, done on an old phone in a poorly lit workshop late at night. :-[

I learnt about silicone spray from a fellow knife buddy. You get some brands that are food safe (FDA approved for incidental food contact), I use it on non-stainless folders too.

Cheers mate.

A little more work done this evening.  I've cropped the "fish tail" pommel to make a smoother line across the spine.  Also I've deepened the rear finger groove to better balance out the shape with that of the front.

Thanks gents.  I'll maybe do a little more tinkering with the shaping on the handle, but not a lot.  Drop the point a little more perhaps?  I don't know.  Definitely need to make it it's own sheath as well at some point.

It lends itself to be carried with its great sheath and low weight... :tu:
