Anyway... I have the vaguest memory of Northwest Coast story involving either Raven and Fox or Raven and Wolf, who were involved in some sort of dispute, and Raven somehow tricks Fox (or Wolf) into sitting on the frozen ice and he gets stuck fast by his anus... or something like that... I can't find it though.

Hephestus was the Greek blacksmith to the Gods. Rumor has it that he was the one who taught Mankind to forge awl sorts of stuff, to include axes.




True story: Zeus swallows Metis, being fearful that her offspring will be wiser than he is and potentially overthrow him as ruler of all. However, sly old Metis is already preggers with Zeus' child, Athena. Hephestus takes an axe and splits Zeus' head open (non-fatal injury for an immortal). Out pops mighty Athena. Things get complicated after that, but we do have a close association between Athena and axes.
