SHOT 2020- CRKT Tuna
on: January 27, 2020, 08:07:12 PM
Megan got to see all the cool new stuff from CRKT this year- unfortunately no new multitools, but a few new knives, including one that really got my attention- the Tuna, designed by Lucas Burnley.

I'm not sure what Megan thinks about it, but I have to say that I like the simple, robust but not overbuilt look of it.  I also have to admit that I am a bit of a sucker for a stonewashed finish, even if pretty is as pretty does.  This just looks like a nice, straightforward, no BS knife, which is a breath of fresh air in this world of fancier and more complex tactical knives as each designer tries to out- design everyone else.

Plus it kind of looks like a fish with the lade closed, which probably is the origin of the name!  I wonder if it comes in a can?  :D

I don't see anything about it on CRKT's website:

Is it bad that I like that color?  :D

Kind of looks cute :dd:

:P

Yup, I like the slimmer handles of it, better for pocket carry, and the blade profile is nice too.

Nice looking knife.

I too like the simplicity of the design. It looks functional, as a knife should.

Decently sized and pretty robust, it is quite a nice knife! However, SOG and Gerber are already making me say "Hoo Boy" when looking at my wallet. Between SOG's new folders, the Gerber Prybrid and Arm Bar Bit Driver, and the Gerber hunting folder with not only an AXIS lock blade, but an exchangeable secondary blade, I'm gonna be broke--even if I just focus on the Gerbers.

The Provoke is a good example of an "over the top" design. Given how the Ontario RAT is the main LE knife of choice around here, it makes me wonder why CRKT claims it is so popular with LE. All those moving parts... Sounds like to me, more stuff to gunk up, to have to make sure is clean, to lubricate, and to tighten.

CRKT does make a lot of stuff. A lot of which is really great. My brother eye balled my KISS once to often so I gifted it to him.
This one looks like one I will be checking out.
